Abstract

A mug or cup (1) is provided with an infuser (3) formed of a skeletal wall structure of plastics material carrying a mesh and having a shoulder (4) resting on the body portion of the cup. The infuser extends to the bottom region of the mug or cup to enable liquid in the lower region of the mug or cup to contact the tea leaves through the mesh. In a preferable arrangement the rim of the infuser has extending tabs which enable the infuser to fit mugs or cups of various sizes. The infuser has a handle (9), and a loosely fitting lid (5). <IMAGE>

Description

DRINKING VESSEL The present invention relates to drinking vessels for beverages such as tea.
In my earlier GB Patent Specification 2,222,513A I disclose a teapot having an infuser consisting of a skeletal structure of plastics material and a porous wall which is inserted into the teapot to carry tea leaves in a lower region of the pot for infusion.
I have now found that a drinking vessel can be provided in the form of a mug or cup having a body portion and a handle, an infuser with a porous wall for confining loose tea leaves, said infuser being formed of a skeletal wall structure of plastics material carrying a mesh to form the porous wall, having a shoulder resting on the body portion of the cup and extending to the bottom region of the mug or cup to enable liquid in the lower region of the mug or cup to contact the tea leaves through the porous wall.
Preferably the drinking vessel has a lid which can loosely fit within an upper part of the infuser when the infuser is carried within the mug or cup.
Preferably the infuser has an upper peripheral rim to rest on the upper lip of the mug or cup, and preferably the rim has extending tabs to enable any particular infuser to fit mugs or cups of various sizes.
Preferably the rim of the infuser has an outstanding handle to enable the infuser to be lifted out of the mug or cup after infusion.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawings in which: Figure 1 is an exploded view showing mug, infuser and lid; Figure 2 is a plan view of the infuser; and Figure 3 is an upper plan view of the lid.
Referring to Figure 1, a conventional mug 1 with a handle 2 has an infuser 3 with an upper rim 4 which is arranged to sit on the upper lip of the mug. A lid 5 then loosely sits within the upper region of the infuser 3.
The lid 5 has a recessed handle 6 which can be seen in the upper plan view of Figure 3.
The infuser 3 consists of an injection moulded skeletal structure 7 of plastics material which carries, within openings 7a, 7b in the skeletal structure, a porous wall 8 for confining loose tea leaves. The infuser is shaped so as to extend to the bottom region of the mug so that tea leaves will be carried at the lower part of the mug so that hot water can satisfactorily infuse with the tea leaves.
The upper rim 4 has outwardly extending tabs 8 so that the infuser can fit the upper lip of mugs or cups of various sizes and the infuser also has a handle 9 extending outwards from the rim 4.
In use, the infuser is placed on the rim of the mug 1, boiling water is poured into the infuser and the lid 5 is then put into position.
The tea is permitted to infuse for a short while, the infuser is then removed, and then a brewed quantity of tea is available in the cup for drinking.

Claims (5)

1. A mug or cup having a body portion to contain the beverage, in combination with an infuser which has a porous wall for confining loose tea leaves, said infuser being formed of a skeletal wall structure of plastics material carrying a mesh to form the porous wall, having a shoulder resting on the body portion of the cup and extending to the bottom region of the mug or cup to enable liquid in the lower region of the mug or cup to contact the tea leaves through the porous wall.
2. A mug or cup according to claim 1 having a lid which can loosely fit within an upper part of the infuser when the infuser is carried within the mug or cup.
3. A mug or cup according to anyone of the preceding claims in which the infuser has an upper peripheral rim. to rest on the upper lip of the mug or cup, and the rim has extending tabs to enable the infuser to fit mugs or cups of various sizes.
4. A mug or cup according to any of the preceding claims in which the rim of the infuser has an outstanding handle to enable the infuser to be lifted out of the mug or cup after infusion.
5. A mug or cup substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying digrammatic drawings.
