Abstract

A container, manufactured from plasic suitable for the liquid to be stored, which contains liquids having dissoved pases or gas enrichment such as fizzy drinks for human consumption. Refering to Fig. 1. The container 1 with gas sealing cap 2 has convoluted sides 3 which when hand pressure 4 is applied to the top of the container, will allow the container to collapse and result in a reduction of the containers volume. Each time that a portion of the liquid is removed, hand pressure can be applied to the top of the container and pushed in a downward direction to reduce the containers volume to that of the liquid contained. After collapsing the container, the container cap is refitted. The reduced volume of air present in the resealed container, will reduce the loss of dissolved gas in the iiquid when compared with other known container designs.

Description

Patent Snecification Title: Imorovements To Containers For Liquids Containinci Dissolved Gases Or Gas Enriched Liquids I, Roy Arthur Page, a private inventor, of 15 Lamboume Way, Lakeside, Brierley Hill, West Midlands DY5 3RL, England, do hereby declare the invention, for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: Description: This invention relates to improvements in containers for liquids containing dissolved gases or gas enriched liquids. These liquids may be for human consumption or any such liquids to which this improvement in containers is applicable.
Liquids, such as lemonade, and any other flavoured or none flavoured soft drinks, contain a dissolved gas, present in the liquid drink to improve the taste and effect a refreshing impact on the consumer. A particular problem with these drinks is the retention of dissolved gas once the container has been opened and not fully consumed.
These type of drinks are often supplied in large containers made of a variety of rigid and non rigid materials. The drink will be consumed over an indeterminate period of time, as the liquid level within existing containers falls, the volume of the container stays more or less constant. As a result, the liquid only takes up a percentage of the containers volume, the remaining container volume filled with air.
When the container is stored in a less than full state, the dissolved gas present in the liquid, partially dissipates into the air present in the sealed container. As a result the amount of gas present, in dissolved form, in the liquid is reduced. This results in a change of "Taste" or "Fizz" of the remaining drink. The "Fizzy" drink is in the process of going or has gone "Flat".
It will be appreciated that a container designed and operated as shown in Fig 1 will be able to reduce the volume of air present within the container as the liquid is partially removed. The reduced volume of air present in the resealed container, will reduce the loss of dissolved gas in the liquid when compared with other known container designs.

Claims (3)

Claims:
1. A container manufactured to the design and operated as shown in Fig 1, is able to reduce its intemal volume as liquid is removed. The container design incorporates convoluted sides. These convolutions enable the container to act in the manner of 'bellows'. Hand pressure applied to the top of the container, after removal of a portion of the liquid contained, enables the container to collapse, thereby, reducing the volume of air present in the container.
2. A container manufactured to the design and operated as shown in Fig 1, will contain less air after liquid is removed and the sealing cap replaced, than existing designs of such containers.
3. A container manufactured to tlw design-ancdoperated as shown in Fig 1, will enable a liquid containing dissolved gases or a gas enriched liquid to retain, during storage, a higher percentage of dissolved gas, due to the lower volume of air into which the gas can dissipate, than that possible with existing container designs.
