Abstract

A bottle for fizzy or sparkling drinks has a collapsible, concertinaed portion 10 between a stiff neck 12 which allows a cap 11 to be screwed on and a base 13 which allows the bottle to stand. The collapsible portion 10 of the bottle allows the bottle to be reduced in volume and hence reduce the air filled space into which the gas from the drink can escape.

Description

1 2354504 Drinks Bottle.
The invention relates to a bottle for fizzy drinks, for example lemonade, sparkling water, beer, etc. which would be made of, for example, plastic and would have a collapsible portion between, for example the neck of the bottle and the base.
Standard drinks bottle allow the contents to lose their fizz once the bottle is no longer full. The advantage of the collapsible portion of the bottle is that the volume of the bottle can be decreased in a number of stages once the seal is broken and the liquid is poured out gradually- As the liquid is poured out the bottle's volume can be decreased by collapsing the collapsible portion of the bottle and hence expelling the air allowing the liquid to fill the available space before the cap is replaced.
The bottle is made of, for example, plastic with a stiff neck to allow the cap to be screwed on and a standard base to allow the bottle to stand. The difference with this invention is a portion which is formed like a concertina to allow the bottle's volume to be decreased gradually, expelling the air and hence not providing an air-filled space into which the gas from the fizzy drink can escape.
The collapsible portion of the bottle is made up of concentric ridges equally spaced down the vertical length of the bottle. When pressed down the adjacent ridges collapse into each other hence reducing the volume of the bottle.
Figure 1 shows example I of a design for this collapsible bottle in it's fully expanded state.
Figure 2 shows example 1 in its collapsed state.
Figure 3 shows example 2 of a design for this collapsible bottle in it's fully expanded state.
Figure 4 shows example 2 in its collapsed state.
Figure 5 shows example 3 of a design for this collapsible bottle in it's fully expanded state.
Figure 6 shows example 3 in its collapsed state.
Referring to the drawings the bottle comprises a stiff neck 12 which allows a cap 11 to be screwed on. The central portion of the bottle has a collapsible area 10 which will collapse down to expel excess air, as in Figures 2, 4, 6. The base design is standard and of any design to be firm enough to allow the bottle to stand and is not collapsible 13. When the bottle is full the collapsible portion 10 is fully expanded and rigid under the pressure of the contents.

Claims (1)

  1. Claims
1 A bottle for fizzy or sparkling drinks which comprises a concertinaed, collapsible central portion between the neck of the bottle and the base which allows the bottle's volume to be reduced. 2 A bottle as claimed in claim 1 with concentric ridges down the vertical length of the bottle which when fully expanded allow the bottle to become rigid under the pressure of the contents. 3 A bottle as claimed in claims 1 and 2 which can gradually decrease in volume as the collapsible portion of the bottle is pressed down, hence reducing the air filled space above the fizzy or sparkling contents. 4 A bottle as claimed in any preceeding claims which can be made from plastics, metals or any suitable material or combination of materials.
