Abstract

A cigarette container (54) comprises a compartment (55) for containing cigarettes, a cap (56) which is hinged to the container (at 33) and a receptacle (57) formed as an extension of the cap (56) for receiving discarded cigarette ends. The receptacle (57) includes an aperture (45) through which the discarded ends are inserted into the receptacle (57). The aperture (45) is closed by means of a closure flap (51).

Description

A cigarette container This invention relates to a cigarette container.
It is common for smokers to throw away discarded cigarette ends which then become litter. Generally, discarded cigarette ends are thrown away because there is no readily available container.
According to the present invention, there is provided a cigarette container comprising a first compartment for containing cigarettes and a second compartment integral with the first compartment, the second compartment having an aperture for inserting discarded cigarette ends therethrough for storage in the second compartment.
The invention thus provides a container for receiving discarded cigarette ends which container is readily available to a smoker since it is integral with the carrier for the cigarettes.
Following is a description, by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings, of one method of carrying the invention into effect.
In the drawings:- Figure 1 is plan view of a carton blank for forming an embodiment of a cigarette container in accordance with the present invention and, Figure 2 is a cross-section of the cigarette container.
Referring now to Figure 1 of the drawings, there is shown a carton blank 10 comprising a plurality of panels and flaps as follows: a rectangular front panel 11 having opposite facing side flaps 12,13 segregated from the front panel 11 by folds 14,15; a bottom panel 16 segregated from the front panel 11 by a fold 17; a rectangular rear panel 18 segregated from the bottom panel 16 by a fold 19 and having side flaps 20,21 segregated from the rear panel 18 by folds 22,23 and each having depending therefrom a rectangular tab 24,25 segregated from the corresponding side flap 20,21 by a fold 26,27; a rectangular cap rear panel 28 having side flaps 29,30 segregated from the cap rear panel 28 by folds 31,32, the cap rear panel 28 being segregated from the rear panel 18 by a fold 33; a rectangular top panel 34 segregated from the cap rear panel 28 by a fold 35; a rectangular cap front panel 36 segregated from the top panel 34 by a fold 37 and having side flaps 38,39 segregated from the cap front panel 36 by folds 40,41; a rectangular first inner wall panel 42 segregated from the cap front panel 36 by a fold 43; a rectangular aperture panel 44 having an aperture 45 therein and being segregated from the first inner wall panel 42 by a fold 46; a rectangular second inner wall panel 47 segregated from the aperture panel 44 by a fold 48; a rectangular re-entry panel 49 segregated from the second inner wall panel 47 by a fold 50; a rectangular closure flap 51 segregated from the re-entry panel 49 by a fold 52 and an elongate tab 53 extending from the closure flap 51.
The blank 10 is formed into container 54, as shown in Figure 2, by folding the side flaps 12,13; 20,21; 29,30; and 38,39 and the tabs 24,25 on the respective fold lines 14,15; 22,23; 26,27; 31,32; and 40,41 so that the flaps and tabs extend in the same direction at right angles to the plane of the blank 10. The material of the blank 10 then is folded on the respective fold lines 17,19,33,35 and 37 so that all of the panels 11,16,18,28,34 and 36 turn inwardly towards one another and the front and rear panels 11,18 extend parallel one to another being spaced one from another by the bottom panel 16 with the tabs 24,25 superimposed on the bottom panel 16, the side flap 12 overlapping the side flap 20 and the side flap 13 overlapping the side flap 21. The side flaps 12,20 and 13,21 then are adhesively secured one to another to provide a compartment 55 for containing cigarettes (not shown). The first inner wall panel 42 is folded on the fold line 43 towards the compartment 55 and is adhesively secured to the adjacent surface of the cap front panel 36. The aperture panel 44 then is folded on the fold line 46 so as to extend in a plane at right angles to the plane of the cap front panel 36. The second inner wall panel 47 then is folded on the fold line 48 so as to extend in spaced parallel relationship with the first inner wall panel 42. A surface of the second inner panel 47 remote from the first inner panel 42 then is adhesively secured to a surface of the cap rear panel 28 adjacent the compartment 55 and the side flaps 29,38 and 30,39 of the cap rear panel 28 and cap front panel 36 are adhesively united one to another to form a cap 56 including a receptacle 57. The reentry panel 49 is inserted inwardly of the cap 56 on the fold line 50 and the closure flap 51 thereby folds on the fold line 52 to nestle inside the cap 56 and close the aperture 45 of the aperture panel 44. However, the closure flap 51 may be withdrawn from covering the aperture 45 by pulling the tab 53 thereby causing the flap 51 to move away from the aperture panel 44 and the re-entry panel 49 to pivot about the fold 50.
In normal use, the container 54 provides an enclosure for cigarettes located in the compartment 55. The container 54 is opened by pivoting the cap 56 rearwardly at the fold 33.
The receptacle 57 provides a convenient storage for discarded cigarette ends, the receptacle 57 being accessible by removing the closure flap 51 from the aperture 45 and inserting the discarded cigarette ends through the aperture 45 into the receptacle 57.
It will be appreciated that the receptacle 57 may be provided with contents having fire extinguishing and odour neutralising properties.
