Abstract

Contacts.- The contact members of link disconnecting switches have means for latching and for unlatching as a protection against the effects of heavy currents or other causes tending to throw the link out of its contacts. Two constructions are described as shown in Fig. 3 the contacts 1 have spring latches 4 normally occupying the position shown. The link 6 is tapped to take a detachable operating handle 11 and provided with a spring mounted unlatching member 7 through which the handle passes, and the member is depressed on screwing in the handle so as to move the latches and free the contact member. As shown in Fig. 6, the contact member is of channel section and carries locking members 15, 16 which normally are extended into engagement with perforated bent tongues 12, fitted to the contacts, by a spring controlled pin 27 to which they are linked. The handle has a cup-shaped end 26 with bayonet slots which, when engaged with the bayonet pins 25, depresses the pin 27 and unlatches the contact-member.
