Abstract
A protection structure is provided for protecting a disc 50 which includes an inner annular portion 52, an outer annular portion 56, and a data reading region 58 on an underside thereof and located between the inner and outer annular portions. The protection structure includes a film 10 releasably mounted on the underside of the disc for closely covering and shielding the data reading region. The film has an inner rim portion 12 releasably adhered to the inner annular portion of the disc and an outer rim portion 16 abutting on the outer annular portion thereof.
Description
DISC PROTECTION STRUCTURE
The present invention relates to a structure for protecting items such as compact discs and the like.
A conventional disc protection structure is shown in
Figs. 7 and 8. However, there still remain shortcomings therein
There will be a complete illustration in the detailed description of the preferred embodiments, concerning the conventional disc protection structure.
The present invention has arisen to mitigate and/or obviate the disadvantage of the conventional disc protection structure.
In accordance with one aspect of the present invention, there is provided a protection structure for protecting a disc. The disc includes an inner annular portion formed on a center thereof, an outer annular portion formed on an outer periphery thereof, and a data reading region mounted on an underside thereof and located between the inner and outer annular portions.
The protection structure includes a film releasably mounted on the underside of the disc for closely covering and shielding the data reading region. The film has an inner rim portion releasably adhered to the inner annular portion of the disc and an outer rim portion abutting on the outer annular portion thereof.
Further features of the present invention will become apparent from a careful reading of the detailed description with appropriate reference to the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a protection structure for a disc in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 is an assembly view of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a front plan cross-sectional view of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a protection structure for a disc in accordance with a second embodiment of the present invention;
Fig. 5 is a partially front plan cross-sectional view of Fig. 4, similar to that of Fig. 3;
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a protection structure for a disc in accordance with a third embodiment of the present invention;
Figs. 7 is a perspective view of a protection structure for a disc in accordance with the prior art; and
Fig. 8 is a front plan cross-sectional view of Fig. 7.
For a better understanding of features and benefits of the present invention, reference is made to Figs. 7 and 8, illustrating a conventional disc protection structure in accordance with the prior art for protecting such as a compact disc 60 and the like.
The disc 60 includes an inner annular portion 62 formed on a center thereof, an outer annular portion 66 formed on an outer periphery thereof, and a data reading region 68 mounted on an underside thereof. A center hole 620 is defined in the inner annular portion 62. The data reading region 68 is formed by a plurality of concentric grooves serially and closely arranged with each other for storing digital data therein.
The protection structure comprises a resilient circular rail 90 embedded around the outer annular portion 66 of the disc 60. The circular rail 90 includes a groove 92 defined therein for securely receiving the outer annular portion 66 therein. By such an arrangement, the disc 60 together with the circular rail 90 can be placed on a surface 80 with the disc 60 located slightly above the surface 80, thereby preventing the disc 60 from becoming in contact with the surface 80 directly. However, the circular rail 90 cannot encompass the data reading region 68 such that the data reading region 68 is easily scratched and damaged.
Referring to Figs. 1-3, a protection structure in accordance with the present invention is provided for protecting a disc 50 such as a compact disc (C.D.), a laser disc (L.D.) and the like.
The disc 50 includes an inner annular portion 52 formed on a center thereof, an outer annular portion 56 formed on an outer periphery thereof, and a data reading region 58 mounted on an underside thereof and located between the inner and outer annular portions. Preferably, a center hole 520 is defined in the inner annular portion 52. In addition, the data reading region 58 is formed by a plurality of concentric pits serially and closely arranged with each other for storing digital data therein.
The protection structure comprises a film 10 releasably mounted on the underside of the disc 50 for closely covering and entirely shielding the data reading region 58 of the disc 50. The film 10 is preferably a transparent film with a thickness smaller than sixty micrometers (yam).
The film 10 has an inner rim portion 12 releasably adhered to the inner annular portion 52 of the disc 50 and an outer rim portion 16 abutting on the outer annular portion S6 thereof.
Preferably, the inner rim portion 12 of the film 10 has a plurality of ribs 14 extending radially and inwardly therefrom and adhered to the inner annular portion 52 of the disc 50 by means of such as spot gluing. A bore 120 is preferably defined in the inner rim portion 12 of the film 10 and communicates with the center hole 520.
In practice, the film 10 is attached on the underside of the disc 50 by means of an adhesive interaction of static electricity therebetween such that the film 10 can be closely mounted on the underside of the disc 50, thereby preventing the disc 50 from being scratched or dirtied and thereby insuring the safety and precision of the data reading region 58.
The film 10 can be removed from the underside of the disc 50 easily, thereby being exchanged by a new film during long-term utilization or after being scratched or dirtied.
Referring to Figs. 4 and 5, in accordance with a second embodiment of the present invention, the film 10 has a plurality of deformable flanges 162 formed on the outer rim portion 16 thereof. By such an arrangement, the plurality of flanges 162 can folded up to enclose around the outer annular portion 56 of the disc 50, thereby securely sealing the outer annular portion 56 of the disc 50.
Referring to Fig. 6, in accordance with a third embodiment of the present invention, the plurality of ribs 14 are omitted.
It should be clear to those skilled in the art that further embodiments of the present invention may be made without departing from disclosures of the present invention.
