Abstract
231,513. Vogt, E., and Kirchhof, L. March 26, 1924, [Convention date]. Pulverulent-fuel furnaces; regenerators.-A reversible regenerative melting or heating furnace fired by pulverulent fuel is provided with two hearths arranged side by side or in tandem and adapted for use alternately for the preliminary and final heating of the material, the supply of air for combustion of the pulverulent fuel being heated by the waste gases in regenerators arranged at the ends of two hearths. Figs. 1 and 3 show the hearths I, II, arranged side by side. When hearth I is being heated by the burner i, the gases pass over the hearth II and through the flue a to the tubular regenerator g and thence to the chimney flue through the valve c. The air for combustion is supplied by a pipe d to pipes e, which serve to cool the dividing wall between the hearths, and then passes through a three-way valve f to the regenerator g and pipe h to the burner i. Upon reversal of the course of the gases, the waste gases escape through the flue k to heat the regenerator l from which air passes to the burner above the hearth II. In a modification shown in Figs. 5 and 7 in which the hearths I, II are arranged in tandem, the air for combustion passes through a three-way valve q to one or other of the regenerators u by way of pipes t and thence through a pipe v to the burner w at the opposite end of the furnace.
