Abstract
231,417. Casale, L. March 29, 1924, [Convention date]. Ammonia, catalytic production of from nitrogen and hydrogen; catalytic apparatus. - The reaction gases for the catalytic synthesis of ammonia are purified by a preliminary treatment with ammonia gas, preferably that formed during a previous catalysis, the ammonia being in excess of that required to form solid compounds with the carbon oxides, hydrogen sulphide, nitric oxide and acid compounds generally which contaminate the gases. In the Figure, the highly-compressed reaction gases enter the operation circuit by the tube 1 at a point intermediate between the catalyser 7 and the ammonia condenser 3. The products of the interaction between the ammonia from the catalyser and the impurities in the gases, mainly carbon monoxide, dissolve in the ammonia condensed and the product flows to the receiver 4, whilst the purified gases are returned by the pump 5 through the oil separator 6 to the catalyser 7.
