Abstract

An additive is included in water used in steam/spray producing irons, that produces a scented fragrance which is imposed upon the garments being pressed. The additive can be premixed before being poured into the iron, or can be added to water that has previously been poured into the iron. The additive may be in the form of a slowly dissolving tablet that dissipates through the water after being placed into the iron's water compartment.

Description

STEAM IRON WATER ADDITIVE This invention relates to a chemical additive that is mixed with water in steam and water spraying irons to add scent to clothing being pressed.
Steam and spray producing irons used both domestically and commercially are well known appliances. Chemical additives to the washing process which produce a fragrant scent to the garments being cleaned are in regular use.
The smell that these chemical additives supply throughout the cleaning process is often lost during the application of heated irons during ironing to un-crease the clean clothes, or the fragrant scent is lost during the drying process.
According to the present invention there is provided a chemical mixture, henceforth referred to as additive, which upon water contact within a steam/spray iron's water space, or directly prior to the water being poured into the ironing device's water space, produces a fragrant scented solution, that can be sprayed directly onto clothing via the water pump mechanism supplied with the iron, or that when heated to its gaseous form using the heating mechanism supplied with the iron, adds a fragrant scented gas to clothing.
The application of this scented spray or gas will replace or enhance the fragrance that is lost throughout the cleaning process, as the ironing of the garments is the final stage.
There are two proposed application methods for introducing the additive into the water for use within the steam/spray producing irons: I. Liquid Additive: A liquid additive that can be added
to water to form a fragrant scented solution and a similar fragrant scented gas upon heating the solution into its gaseous form. This solution can be combined prior to being poured into the iron or can be applied directly into water previously contained within the water holding section of the steam and spray producing iron. The droplets of liquid additive will be applied via pipette or similar measuring implement, to accurately measure the correct amount of liquid additive to be mixed into solution within the capacity of the water section of the steam/spray producing iron.
ii. Tablet Form Additive: The additive that forms a fragrant scented solution and similar scented gas upon heating, taking the form of a tablet that can be added to water within the water holding section of the steam/spray producing iron. This tablet will be of a slowly dissolving chemical composition which dissipates the chemicals that cause the fragrant scent through out the water, which will be used via the spray or steam producing mechanisms. This tablet will also act as an agitator of the solution to keep it constantly mixed at the optimum concentration.
In both cases of the liquid or tablet form, referred to above (i & ii), there will take various fragrances and colours of the additive, that will infer different chemical compositions of the additive. The idea of applying the additive to provide a fragrance to the process of ironing clothing is itself the inventive idea.

Claims (3)

  1. According to the present invention there is provided a chemical mixture, which upon water contact within a steam/spray iron's water space, or directly prior to the water being poured into the ironing device's water space, produces a fragrant scented solution, that can be sprayed directly onto clothing via the water pump mechanism supplied with the iron, or that when heated to its gaseous form using the heating mechanism supplied with the iron, add a fragrant scented gas to clothing.
  2. 2 The chemical mixture to be added to water for use in irons, as claimed in Claim 1, can take the form of a liquid which is accurately measured to give the correct solution concentration with water.
  3. 3 The chemical mixture to be added to water as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 for use in irons, can take the form of a tablet which is added to water to slowly dissolve and provide a constantly mixed optimum concentration of the chemical mixture in solution.
