Abstract

A bumper guard 1 is moulded with fastening means in the form of nuts 4b inserted into predetermined positions to facilitate attaching the bumper guard to a vehicle body via securing members 3 with bolts 4a. The bumper guard may be moulded as a hollow form from synthetic resin, said hollow form may be filled with urethane foam, which may surround a steel bar (41a figure 7), or provided with an interior reinforcing rib (21a figure 5); alternatively the bumper may be moulded from urethane foam (15 figure 4), possibly with either a plastic core (11a figure 4) or cylindrical steel pipe core (31a figure 6) in the centre thereof. The bumper guard may be formed from two portions combined by supersonic welding, bonding emulsion (figure 8) or integrally provided nuts and bolts (figure 9).

Description

BUMPER GUARD FOR PROTECTING A VEHICLE Background of the Invention This invention relates to a bumper guard which is attached to the front and the rear ends of the body of a vehicle to absorb the shock of collision more efficiently.
Furthermore, present invention also relates to a bumper guard that provides great intensity to the body of a vehicle so to protect a driver and passengers from a car collision.
Generally, conventional bumper guard has been made by bending and welding a metal tube, then attaching rubber or plastic thereon with bonding emulsion. Alternatively, the metal tube may be commonly secured to rubber or plastic by bolts and nuts.
Since a manufacturing process of the conventional bumper guard is complicated and a manufacturing method thereof is restricted, it is hard to produce the bumper guard of which design is suitable to adapt on the corresponding the body of a vehicle. Moreover, because of the heavy weight of the conventional bumper guard, it has other defects such as low combustion efficiency of the car and high manufacturing cost.
Summary of the Invention It is therefore an object of this invention to provide a bumper guard of which weight is light yet providing the high strength characteristic required. Another object of the invention is to provide a bumper guard for a vehicle which may effectively absorb the shock of collision so that intensity and stability of the body of a vehicle against the impact are respectively increased. Accordingly, present invention ensures security of a driver and passengers from a traffic accident.
According to an aspect of the invention, the present bumper guard is molded in hollow with synthetic resin and filled with urethane foam therein. The bumper guard is secured to the body of a vehicle via securing members to which fastening means are fitted. Wherein the bumper guard is molded while nuts are inserted in predetermined position into which the fastening means are fitted. Matching coating of paint may be provided on the outer surface of the bumper guard.
According to another aspect of the invention, the bumper guard is molded in hollow with synthetic resin and provided a rib to reinforce the bumper guard.
According to other aspects of the invention, the bumper guards are molded in polygonal shape with urethane foam while a various kind of reinforcing means are inserted respectively.
Brief Description of the Drawings The above and other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent upon consideration of the following detailed description, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, wherein like reference numbers refer to like parts throughout, and in which: FIG. 1 is a front view of a bumper guard according to the present invention, FIG. 2 is a section view taken on line I-I in Fig. 1 showing the bumper guard mounted on the body of vehicle, FIG.3 is an enlarged section view taken on line II-II in Fig.1, FIG. 4 is a partial section view of Fig.3 according to a second embodiment, FIG. 5 to FIG. 9 are partial section views similar to Fig. 4 respectively, showing other embodiments FIG. 10 is a detached perspective view illustrating attached state of the bumper guard.
Detailed Description of the Invention Referring to the drawings, Fig.l is a front view of a bumper guard. Fig. 2 is a section view taken on line I-I of Fig. 1. Fig.3 is an enlarged section view taken on line II-II of Fig. 1.
According to the present invention, the bumper guard(1) is attached to the front and the rear ends of the body of a vehicle by fastening means(4a,4b). The bumper guard(1) is molded in hollow trapezoidal shape while nuts are inserted in predetermined position into which fastening means(4a) are fitted. The interior of the hollow bumper guard(l) is filled with urethane foam. The bumper guard(l) is secured to the body of a vehicle via securing members(3) to which fastening means are fitted. Wherein urethane foam is filled in the bumper guard by means of foam molding. Preferably, the fastening means may be bolts(4a), and the bumper guard(1) is made of synthetic resin.
FIG. 4 shows a second embodiment of the present bumper guard. According to the embodiment, the bumper guard(1) is molded with urethane foam(15) while a plastic core(lla) having a same shape with the bumper guard(1) is inserted in the center of the bumper guard(1).
FIG. 5 shows a third embodiment of the bumper guard having a rib(21a). The rib(21a) divides the interior of the bumper guard(l) into two parts. It is convinced that the rib(21d) may be molded leaving a space so that the interior of the bumper guard(1) is not completely divided in two parts.
FIG. 6 shows a fourth embodiment of bumper guard(1) having a cylindrical steel pipe core(31a). This embodiment is similar to the second embodiment except that the cylindrical steel pipe core(31a) is inserted instead of the plastic core(a).
FIG. 7 shows a fifth embodiment of the bumper guard(l).
This embodiment is similar to the first embodiment except that urethane foam is filled in the bumper guard while a cylindrical steel bar(41a) is inserted in the middle. Wherein urethane foam is filled in the bumper guard(l) by means of foam molding.
FIG. 8 shows a sixth embodiment of the bumper guard.
According to this embodiment, the bumper guard consists of a right portion and a left portion that are molded in hollow trapezoidal shape respectively, wherein the right and the left portions are mirror image. The right and the left portions are bonded to each other by supersonic welding or bonding emulsion.
FIG. 9 shows a seventh embodiment of the present bumper guard. According to the embodiment, the bumper guard molded in hollow is dividable into a front and a rear portions(7la, 71b). The rear portion(7lb) is molded with synthetic resin while nuts(74b) are provided at predetermined intervals, and the front portion(7la) is also molded with synthetic resin while holes are provided for receiving bolts(74a), so that the rear and the front portions may be combined by fitting the nuts(74b) and the bolts(74a).
Although aforesaid bumper guards are illustrated in trapezoidal shape, it may be also possible to make the bumper guard in other polygonal shape.
As screwing the fastening means(4b) through the securing members (3) until it is fitted into the nut(4a) formed in the bumper guard(l), the bumper guard(l) is attached to the body of a vehicle as shown in the fig. 10.
Accordingly, since the present bumper guard(l) is molded in hollow while nuts are inserted therein, and urethane foam is filled in the hollow bumper guard, it is possible to provide a light and strong bumper guard.
