Abstract
231,048. Uno Co., Ltd., and Benkert, P. B. June 10, 1924. Conical mills; disc mills.-In a machine for grinding coffee &c., coarse grinding takes place between concentric stationary and rotating conical members with cast grinding-teeth, and subsequently the final grinding takes place between flat or almost flat grinding-discs of steel having machined teeth or blades. The fine teeth or blades may be formed by slotting at intervals interengaging annular steel grinding-rings. As shown, the driving-shaft of the mill carries a cast-iron sleeve g with spiral blades h for feeding the coffee berries into the grinding-zone, the bore of which is eccentric to the sleeve g. The sleeve g is formed at its end as a cone k with a cast-iron face having diagonally-disposed serrations l. The stationary cone m is also formed with diagonal serrations n and is adjustable within the casing s by means of a screw v which engages a screw thread on the cone and is rotatable by means of a milled head w. A pin t on the cover-plate u prevents the cone m from rotating. The cone k terminates in a surface which is almost flat and carries a steel ring o having on its face annular ribs which are cut through at intervals radially to form the teeth p, Fig. 3. The stationary cone m carries a cooperating steel ring q also formed with annular slotted projections or teeth r which interengage with the teeth p. The gaps between successive teeth may be inclined to the radii of the disc. and the gaps in successive rows may be staggered. The downwardly-directed outlet y at or near the bottom of the casing s is tangentially disposed in the direction of discharge from the teeth p. The ground material is directed to the outlet by stripper blades z on the rotating member k. A pivoted plate e is provided at the bottom of the feed-hopper, and the mill is driven by an electric motor.
