Abstract
A turntable consists of two circular plates 1 and 2, of the same size, held together but allowing for rotation of the top plate 1 by a dome locking and centralizing cap 3. This cap 3 is held fixed to plate 2 by screws. When laid on the ground with a motorcycle stand upon it, the top plate 1 easily revolves while plate 2 stays firmly fixed to the ground, enabling easy rotation through 360{ of motorcycles in confined spaces such as garages, driveways, etc..
Description
BI KETURN This invention relates to a Biketurn.
Motorcycles come in all shapes and sizes; from small lightweight motorcycles to very large and heavy ones.
When the rider is dismounted the small lightweights are quite easy to manoeuvre for most people, but the heavier the bike gets things are very different. The majority of motorcycles have no reverse gear, so when it comes to confined spaces for manoeuvring the bike it can turn out to be a very difficult task.
Motorcycles are, however, very expensive; so removal of the bike from a garage, driveway, or similar confined space, has to be done with extreme care, and depending on the orientation of the bike may require the rider to push it backwards, this may cause the rider to lose balance, dropping the bike, and possibly causing injury to themself.
According to the present invention there is provided a motorcycle turntable which consists of two circular plates, same in size, which, when laid on the ground, will accommodate the centre stand of the motor cycle.
Parked in this position the wheels thus are well clear of the ground and the bike will then be rotated in any direction; this provides the motorcycle keeper with greater control in manoeuvring their bikes in confined spaces.
The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which :
Figure 1 illustrates the separation of the various components;
Figure 2 shows a cut away view from the side.
Referring to the drawings the Biketurn comprises of top plate (1), bottom plate (2), domed locking cap (3) and two screws (4).
Top plate (1) has a round hole in its centre. This is to accept the centralizing dome locking cap (3). Locking cap (3) also holds plates 1 & 2 together.
The dome locking cap (3) has its outer edges larger than the hole in plate 1; this is to secure plate 1 firmly in position on, while still allowing for movement, on plate 2. Screws (4), then go through plate 2 and into the dome locking cap (3). Plates 1 and 2 when placed together will have their smooth sides back to back.
The Biketurn when laid on the floor will allow the motorcycle owner to ride the machine directly over it, only stopping when they are quite sure that the Biketurn is directly beneath and under their centre stand. They will have to dismount and make slight adjustments to the bike's position. They now operate their centre stand, making absolutely sure that it rests in the middle of the
Biketurn, and now proceeds to haul the bike on its stand.
This whole procedure, of course, only takes a few seconds. The bike now stands higher than normal with more clearance under the front and rear wheels. This will enable the owner to rock the bike from front to back or visa versa. Motorcycles are very well balanced on their centre stands and with this added clearance, created by the Biketurn, all that is required now is for the owner to stand at the side of their machine and balance the bike on its stand giving notice to sufficient clearance under both wheels and the bike will easily rotate with the top plate while the bottom plate stays firmly fixed to the ground.
Claims (7)
1 A Biketurn comprising of two strong flat materials, same in size; the sides of which both comprise a grip pattern surface on one side and smooth surface on the other. A round hole exists in the top section to facilitate insertion of the dome locking, centralising cap. This cap holds both material sections together with the aid of screws from under the bottom section.
2 A Biketurn as claimed in claim 1 wherein a smooth surface means an unmarked and flat surface.
3 A Biketurn as claimed in claim 1 wherein a round hole means a hole of suitable size for the dome locking cap.
4 A Biketurn as claimed in claim 1 wherein materials means a material suitably strong enough to stand the weight of the machine being used.
5 A Biketurn as claimed in claim 1 wherein size means large enough to accommodate the stand of the machine in use.
6 A Biketurn as claimed in claim 1 wherein grip pattern means a grip pattern on the surface of the material to reduce unwanted movement of the stand when the machine is put in position.
7 A Biketurn as claimed in claim 1 wherein the centre locking cap is provided for centralizing and a guide for the rotation of the top plate.
