Abstract

A towel (20, 30) is detachably attached face-to-face against a garment. The towel can thus be detached by the wearer. The attaching means suitably comprises hook-and-pile fasteners and/or cooperating strips arranged to be secured to a garment by ironing on.

Description

Detachable Towel The present invention relates to a towel for use particularly but not solely by sportsmen.

Sportsmen often need to use a towel, during the course of play, to wipe their hands, face etc. dry, or sometimes to wipe a ball or other sports article dry. Often the player carries a small towel in a pocket etc. but this does not always make the towel conveniently accessible.

I have now devised an arrangement which provides a towel having a dual purpose.

In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a towel having means for detachably attaching it faceto-face against a garment, the towel carrying information and/or advertising or promotional matter.

It will be appreciated that such a towel performs, with advantage, a dual purpose. Thus, firstly it can be detached by the wearer, in the course of play, when he needs to wipe his hands or face etc, or to wipe the ball or other play article, and secondly the towel has the advantage of carrying information and/or advertising or promotional matter. The information may include the player's name and/or team number.

The advertising matter may relate to the team' sponsorship.

Preferably the means for attaching the towel to the garment comprises fasteners of the hook-and-pile (Velcro) type.

Preferably the fasteners comprise strips secured along opposite edges of the towel. Preferably the strips to be secured to the garment are arranged for ironing onto the garment.

In accordance with the present invention, a towel may be fastened to a sports shirt or jersey, particularly across the front or chest of the jersey. Additionally or instead, a towel may be fastened to a pair of sports shorts, particularly down the outer side of one leg.

Embodiments of the present invention will now be described by way of examples only and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: FIGURE 1 is a front view of a footballer having one towel in accordance with this invention attached across the front or chest of his shirt or jersey and a second towel attached to one side of his shorts; and FIGURE 2 is a similar view of the footballer, indicating the manner in which each towel is detachable.

Referring to Figure 1 of the drawings, a footballer is shown wearing a pair of shorts 10 and a shirt of jersey 12.

A first rectangular towel 20 is attached to the shorts 10, to one side, and a second rectangular towel 30 is attached to the shirt 12, flat across the front or chest area.

As shown in Figure 2, the towel 30 is attached to the shirt 12 by means of two fastener strips of Velcro type, extending along opposite vertical edges of the towel 30.

Likewise, the towel 20 is attached to the shorts 10 by means of two fastener strips of Velcro type, extending along opposite vertical edges of the towel 20.

Each such fastener comprises one strip 14 stitched to the rear of the towel, and a second strip 16 attached to the garment: preferably the strip 16 is attached to the garment by ironing-on. For this purpose, the towel is preferably supplied with the strips 16 adhered to a backing sheet at the correct spacing, to provide for correct alignment when ironing onto the garment.

It will be particularly noted that the towels carry advertising or information,which may be printed, woven or otherwise provided. In the case of the towel 30, this is shown carrying advertising material, whilst towel 20 is shown carrying information, specifically the footballer's team number.

It will be appreciated that either towel may be detached easily and used by the player during the course of play: the player can then re-attach the towel to the respective garment. Each towel however performs the dual purpose of displaying the information or advertising material which it carries.

Claims

1) A towel having means for detachable attaching it faceto-face against a garment, the towel carrying information and/or advertising or promotional matter.

2) A towel as claimed in claim 1, in which said attaching means comprises fasteners of hook-and-pile type.

3) A towel as claimed in claim 2, in which said fasteners comprise strips secured along opposite edges of the towel.

4) A towel as claimed in claim 3, in which said fasteners further comprise co-operating strips arranged to be secured to a garment by ironing on.

5) A towel substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.

6) A garment having, detachably attached thereto, a towel as claimed in any preceding claim 7) A garment as claimed in claim 6 comprising a sports shirt or jersey with the towel detachably attached across the front or chest thereof.

8) A garment as claimed in claim 6, comprising a pair of sports shorts with the towel detachably attached down the outer side of one leg thereof.
