Abstract

A multi-purpose hammer is formed from integral head A and handle C portions. The handle is tubular and is furnished with knurled hand grips. The handle is hollow and is able to house a tool such as a chisel B. The tool locates in the handle by means of a double sided taper threaded collar E engaging a tapered thread D at the rear end of the handle enabling it to be fixed in both in-use and stowed positions. The hammer is made from steel. A loop of metal F may be welded to the head A as a means of attaching the hammer to a users clothing.

Claims (5)

  1. A DIVING HAMMER DESCRIPTION This invention relates to a diving hammer.
Divers frequently need to use tools underwater and normally use conventional hand tools suitably adapted with a fixing point for attachment to a divers clothing or equipment.
Particularly in the case of sports divers who frequent shipwrecks and seek souvenirs from the dive, a hammer, coldchisel and prising/levering bar are almost universally accepted as the most useful tools to carry. These three separate items however, constitute an encumbrance to the diver - already having enough diving equipment to contend with attached to the divers suit.
This invention is a combination tool of all-steel construction (other materials may follow) comprising of a hammer and a chisel which secures inside the hammer shaft, thereby saving space and the inconvenience of carrying two items when not in use. Furthermore the chisel can be secured onto the end of the hammer shaft (reverse mounted) such that the combined unit becomes a levering bar with chisel end thus avoiding carrying a third item. Additionally, with the chisel mounted inside the handle there is the facility to attach other "tool points" to the end of the hammer shaft as the invention is developed for example a trowel blade. the invention has potentially uses in areas other than diving for example Building/Construction or Geology.
The specifics of this invention are described with reference to the accompanying drawing figure 1.
Inset, shows the diving hammer in perspective, with the cold-chisel reversed in the handle in levering-bar configuration.
The side elevation shows the hammer head (A) is drilled through to allow for drainage and counter-bored twice to accept the tip of the cold chisel (B) and to facilitate welding of the tubular handle (C) to the head. The handle (C) is knurled to give a more efficient gripping surface suited to use wearing gloves underwater and is taper threaded at (D) to accept a double sided taper threaded collar (E) attached to the chisel or other unspecified attachments subject to development of the invention.
In similar manner, the double sided taper threaded collar (E) can be used for the attachment of "tool tips" unspecified subject to the development of the invention, whilst chisel is secured inside the hammer handle. An optional loop (F) is provided as an attachment point to the divers clothing or equipment. The hammer will, however, fit into a diving suit pocket so preference may be for this item to be omitted.
CLAIMS The divers hammer claims the following features: 1. A hollow handle with knurled hand grips, screw threaded at the end opposite to the head to facilitate the attachment of tools.
  2. 2. A cold-chisel, attached to which is a double-sided taperscrew threaded collar by which it can be secured inside the hollow handle as claimed in 1. above.
  3. 3. The double threaded screw collar as in claim 2. facilitates the reversal of the cold-chisel in the handle thread such that it points outwards. The unit, so assembled is transformed into a small levering bar with chisel end.
  4. 4. The double screw threaded collar as in claims 2. and 3.
above also facilitates the attachment of other "tool tips" whilst the cold-chisel is still contained within the hollow handle as in 1. above.
  5. 5. An attachment point for the attachment of the diving hammer to diving clothing is provided in the form of an easily accessible loop on the hammer head (optional).
