Abstract

A multi-functional tool for use by divers combines a hammer, levering bar, rope jammer, mooring pin, grappling iron, line slasher and hand pick formed as a single flat profile item. The tool is arranged so that two such tools can be pivoted together to form a pair of grips. (Fig 1, not shown).

DESCRIPTION
This invention is a multi-fimetional hammering and levering tool which will also capture and lock onto a rope or line.
Divers frequently use conventional hand tools underwater suitably adapted with appropriate fixing points for attachment to clothing or equipment. Particularly in the case of sports divers who frequent shipwrecks and seek souvenirs from the dive, a hammer and prising/levering bar are almost universally accepted as the most useful tools to carry, Many separate items of tooling, however, constitute an encumbrance to the diver already having enough equipment to contend with to be able to dive and breath underwater in the first instance.
This invention is a combination tool in the form of a simple one-piece profile construction in stainless steel. Accepting that many multipurpose tools are a compromise and do not perform as well as a single purpose item, this invention by nature of its shape (as a simple flat profile) will perform adequately as:- 1. A hammer 2. A levering bar with chisel point 3. A lever in the fashion of a conventional claw-hammer 4. A rope jammer thus enabling the tool to be locked onto a rope or a rope locked onto the tool when its chisel point is pushed into the ground or beach, hence 5. A mooring pin 6. A grappling iron and general grabbing hook 7. A fishing line slashing device with a suitable blade or notch incorporated into'the lower section of the handle 8. A hand pick for digging out embedded items underwater 9. When connected together with a pivot point they can be used as a pair of grips In certain instances the tool will lock onto nuts and pipe fittings hence becomes an improvised wrench but it is not universally applicable as such.
Whilst worth a statement of the above it is not considered a claim.
The above describes the principle uses of the tool and the fact that it is a simple, compact item which can be carried in a pouch attached to a diver's leg without hindrance highlights its usefulness in such applications.
The accompanying drawing Figure (1) is a side elevation of the tool indicating where and how each of its functions described is achieved. Figure (2) is a copy of the original final development sketch prior to making a plastic model of the item for evaluation of the invention.

Claims
1. The hammer/levering tool for diving applications claims the merging of the following features: a hammer; levering bar; "claw-hammer" lever; rope jammer; mooring pin; grappling iron; fishing line slasher and hand pick into one simple flat profile item.
2. Two tools can be coupled together to form a pair of grips.
