Abstract
The copyholder comprises a folding framework based on an elongate angle piece to which is pivoted (1) a strut bearing a shorter angle piece, (2) a channel member for holding copy and (3) two further separate struts. The angle pieces are also connected by a spring and their separation can be adjusted; the VDU screen is gripped between them. The other two struts support paper copy resting in the channel member.
Description
A DETACHABLE COPYHOLDER.
1.FIELD OF THE INVENTION.
The invention is in the field of methods to support printed and written materials/documents (called copyholders).
This invention may be attached to a portable computer,to a brief case, or to another similar/suitable surface.
It is suitable for circumstances, where there is no convenient position/location/situation for using any other copyholder.
2.DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIOR ART.
Copyholders already exist which can stand on flat surfaces; however, there are no copyholders which can be attached to a portable computer/brief case/other similar/suitable surfaces.
3 ABSTRACT.
In the preferred embodiment of the invention ,the framework comprises a suitably shaped, vertical, member to which is fixed (by a differently shaped, horizontal, member) a similar, though shorter, vertical member, whose position can be altered to suit the width of the receiving article /surface.
One or more rotating struts may be extended (from the longer, vertical member) to provide sufficient support for documents/copy.
The documents/copy can be held in place by a suitable clip, fastened both to the top of the papers and the upper strut.
At a position such that it is above the top of the lidcontaining-screen, there is fixed (to the longer, vertical member), another, horizontal, member which acts as a shelf for the documents/ copy, at their lower end.
A tension spring may connect the 2 vertical members together in front of the screen.
4.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS.
Fig 1 shows the invention complete in the fully extended position ready to be fitted to, for example only , the lid-containingscreen of a portable computer.
Fig 2 shows the invention both partially open and in its fully closed up, portable , position.
Fig 3 shows an underside view of the preferred junction of the shorter, vertical, member with the uppermost, horizontal, bar.
5. DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT.
The preferred embodiment of the invention (which is shown in the fully opened up/extended position in Fig 1) is described with reference to one sole selected example for its use,i.e. on a lidcontaining- screen of a portable computer.
It consists of 2 parallel, preferably angle section members, which are connected to a, preferably, flat member, whose length is in excess of the maximum width of the largest personal portable computer lid-containing- screen, yet made. These should be jointed so as to be capable of moving to the final folded up/portable position as shown in Fig 2.
Two horizontal members are attached to the longer, vertical member ,as shown in Fig 1.These should be capable of rotating so as to assume the final folded up/portable position as shown in
Fig 2.
At the unattached end of the flat member, previously mentioned, (opposite the end to that which has been fixed) a hole is cut, such that another, though far shorter, vertical (in its fully extended position) preferably right angle member (preferably as long as the maximum height of the largest personal portable computer lid containing screen yet made), and containing a bolt and wing nut), can be attached as shown in Figs 1 & .
This shorter, vertical, (right angled) member can slide along the flat member until it grips the side of the computer screen , as does its opposite longer, vertical, member. When the frame is positioned around the lid-containing-screen of the computer and the 2 angle members are moved so that they are both tight fitting to the sides of the lid-containing-screen,then the wing nut on the underside ( as shown in Fig 3) is tightened up.
(When the wing nut is in a slackened position then the flat member can rest as in the final folded up position of the invention, as shown in Fig 2.)
The (preferred) tension spring, which stretches across the front of the face of the computer screen, and which stabilises the angle members, should not be in such a position as to obscure the screen itself.
A clip can be positioned at the top of one of the horizontal bars (previously described) to fix a sheet or more of documentation/ copy.
At a position which corresponds on the longer angled member to that which is above the top edge of the computer lid-containingscreen, is fixed (to the longer angle member) a suitably shaped member/tray, to hold the documentation/copy at its lower end, as shown in Fig 1.
Optional cushioning material may be introduced between the vertical members and where these abut the casing of the computer.
The preferred embodiment, as described above, may be adapted to fit the body of a portable computer, the screen of a desktop computer/screen,a briefcase or any other suitable article/surface.
