Abstract

The impeller 2 and its housing 1 are formed of thermoplastic. An electric motor drives a stainless steel impeller shaft 4. A gas sampling outlet 5 is moulded in the housing 1. A thermostat 6 on the boiler hood 8 shuts down the boiler in response to flue gas temperature.

Description

BOILER FLUE GAS EXTRACTOR FAN This invention relates to the design of a plastic scroll and impeller which together form a flue gas extractor fan for boilers with high efficiency.
As the efficiency of boilers is increased the temperature of the flue gas is reduced, consequently an extractor fan has to be used to ensure that the gas is effectively extracted.
These fans have to be capable of operating with gases that are highly corrosive and in the case of "condensing boilers" the presents of condensate.
According to the present invention advantage has been taken of the lower flue gas temperature of high efficiency boilers to design a Flue Gas Extractor Fan using thermo plastic that will withstand this highly corrosive environment The Fan housing or scroll Fig.l.l, is mounted on the Fue Hood Fig.l.8, and this hood is assembled to the boiler case Fig.l.7. The fan motor is mounted on the out side of the fan scroll with a stainless steel shaft Fig.l.4 driving the impeller. The motor is protected from the corrosive flue gasses by the negative pressure difference. The fan scroll is fitted with a flue gas sampling point Fig.l.5. As a safety measure, to protect the fan assembly, a thermostat Fig.1.6. is fitted to the flue hood. This will shut down the boiler should a fault cause the flue gas temperature to rise.

Claims (6)

1. The whole assembly will stand up to the hostile environment and flue gas temperature of high efficiency boilers.
2. The assembly is simple to produce.
3. The assembly is lighter in weight than conventional metal construction.
4. The assembly is quieter in operation that conventional metal fans
5. A flue gas sampling point is moulded into the fan housing or scroll.
6. A safety thermostat is attached to the flue hood to check the flue gas temperature and protect the Fan Assembly.
