Abstract

A materials handling bucket for use in loading fertilizer comprises converging walls (5) which are secured by means of welding. The converging walls (5) are angled towards the base of the bucket. In order to remove the material contained in the bucket, a shutter (1), which is positioned in a feed hole (2) at the base of the bucket, is opened. The gradient caused by the converging walls (5) allows the material to slide to the bottom of the bucket and out through the feed hole (2). The shutter (1) is controlled by a hydraulic ram (3), which is opperated by the loading machines external hydraulic services.

Description

MATERIALS HANDLING BUCKET This invention relates to a materials handling bucket.
Materials handling buckets are found in many shapes and sizes, and used for loading various materials in many different situations.
Loading a material into some items can be impossible without spilling some of the material, as the bucket is wider than the item that is to be loaded.
According to the present invention, there is a detachable materials handling bucket, for use with wheeled loading machines. The bucket is used in the conventional way for scooping up a material. When the bucket is loaded, it is crowded back to a horizontal position. The bucket is then positioned above the item that is to be filled. A shutter at the base of the bucket is then opened, and the material is emptied out.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example, with reference to drawing Figure 1: (A) Shows a wheeled loading machine with the attached bucket in a position ready to scoop up the required material.
(B) Shows a wheeled loading machine with the attached bucket entering the material.
(C) Shows a wheeled loading machine withdrawing from the material heap, and the bucket crowded back to limit spillage of the material.
(D) Shows the shutter in the base of the bucket open and the material being emptied into the required item.
Referring to Figure 2, the materials handling bucket comprises of converging walls (5) that are angled towards the bottom of the bucket, to form the shape of a hopper.
Midway along the bottom of the bucket, where the converging walls (5) meet, there is a feed hole (2) controlled by a shutter (1).
When the shutter (1) is opened, the material contained in the bucket, empties through the feed hole (2) because of the gradient caused by the converging walls (5). The shutter (1) is guided by runners (6), whilst the shutter (1) is being opened and closed.
A hydraulic ram (3) is situated beneath one of the converging walls (5), which operates the shutter (1). The hydraulic ram (3) is powered by the loading machine's external services. The ram can be serviced by means of the service hatch (4).
The shutter (1) therefore, can be operated from the cab of the loading machine, to control the desired amount of material that is to be emptied.

Claims (8)

1. A materials handling bucket comprising of converging walls and a shutter at the base of the bucket.
2. A materials handling bucket as claimed in claim 1, wherein the shutter at the base of the bucket is shallower than the opening of the bucket.
3. A materials handling bucket as claimed in claims 1 and 2, wherein a shutter is situated midway along the base of the bucket.
4. A materials handling bucket as claimed in claims 2 and 3, wherein a shutter at the base of the bucket is operated by a hydraulic ram.
5. A materials handling bucket as claimed in the previous claims, wherein has a hydraulic ram operated by the loading machine's external services.
6. A materials handling bucket as claimed in claim 5, wherein a material that is loaded into the bucket falls to the bottom of the bucket and out of a shutter controlled feed hole.
7. A materials handling bucket as claimed in claims 5 and 6, wherein has two brackets fixed to the bucket enabling the bucket to be attached to a wheeled loading machine. (See Figure 3).
8. A materials handling bucket substantially described herein with reference to Figure 2.
