Abstract
229,917. Anglo Numbering Machines, Ltd., and Wilson, H. W. V. June 6, 1924. Embossing.-A device for stamping, marking or numbering metal articles comprises a spring- pressed plunger a, wherein is housed marking mechanism, such as number wheels b, and an outer casing or gauge member d which forms a guide for the plunger and is provided with lateral openings d<1>, d<2> to afford access to the marking mechanism. The wheels b are independently rotatable on a spindle c and are secured in adjusted position by spring catches b<1> engaging notches between the numbers. A plate fixed across the bottom of the casing has a central bevelled portion i<1> forming an indicator to facilitate positioning the device. To avoid damage to the numbers, the wheels b are arranged to project slightly less than the depth of their numbers below the lower face of the plunger a. A pin 6, resting in opposite apertures in the casing and secured in position by a spring band g, passes through an elongated hole a<3> in the plunger, thus limiting the depth of the impression. The lower part of the plunger is cut away to clear the indicator plate.
