Abstract

A cover for fitting over the operating member of a tap is held in place by a pin which passes through aligned holes in the cover and is arranged to lie below the spout of the tap. When used on a bath tap to prevent actuation by a child, the pin is retained by spring-loaded catches. When fitted to an outside tap, the pin may be padlocked to the cover.

Description

THE TAP CAP The invention of the Tap Cap is basically designed to stop young children turning the hot tap on in the bath. This being made from a strong plastic, but it can be used on other taps. Such as an external tap where water is on a meter for example. In which case it will be made of metal or aluminium. When it is used for this a straight pin with a padlock can be used.
The Tap Cap fits over the tap as shown in drawing (1) it is kept in position by a pin going through under the spout. This pin will be held in by means of two key shaped locks moulded on the side of the Tap Cap, as shown in drawing (2). The pin going through will have two grooves one at each end. This pin will be kept in position by a plate with a key hole shape cut out of it so that the small part of the hole will fit into the groove and the big part is big enough to allow the pin to slide through. As shown in drawing (3). Two small springs will hold the key in a position which is pushing the narrow part of the key way into the groove on the pin, again on drawing (3) with one of these on each side they can both be pushed at the same time with the big part of the key over the pin. The pin can then be removed.
THE TAP CAP DRAWING (1) Shows the actual size of the Tap Cap with a light impression of the tap inside. This is a side view showing one of the clips which hold the pin in position.
DRAWING (2) Is looking down on the top showing both clips and the pin which holds the cap in position. The clips holding the pin will have quite strong springs, and will have to be pushed in at the same time to remove the pin.
DRAWING (3) Show the actual clip with its key way being held with its smallest part in the groove of the pin by two springs. One drawing looking from the side the other from the top, one of each will be encased on each side of the Tap Cap.
DRAWING (4) This is a view from the front showing that which has been described in drawings 12223.
THE TAP CAP DRAWING (5) This is an isometric view being used to show the Tap Cap being used. For an outside tap, which can be made of a strong plastic, metal or aluminium. This has just a hole through under the spout for a pin to go through and a padlock put on.
DRAWING (6) Show a drawing of the pin to use with the Tap Cap with the clip fittings on both sides.
DRAWING (7) Shows the pin used for locking with a padlock.
