Abstract

A device for facilitating the laying of a paving slab comprises a frame (5) dimensioned so as to replicate the paving slab, said frame having integral therewith two levelling means (2, 3) at right angles to each other and means (1) for manouevering said frame. The outside edge of the frame is graduated in order to evaluate the amount of preparation work needed for successful laying of the slab. <IMAGE>

Description

PAVING SlAB LAYER'S TOOL This invention is related to the tools used in the laying of paving slabs.
Over the past century the components used in the building industry have undergone a certain degree of standardisation. One such measure is in the environment of groundwork where paving stones have been replaced by paving slabs of various but standard sizes. These sizes however tend to be on the large size, making the individual paving slab heavy and cumbersome. It is a very physically demanding job manouevering and laying these paving slabs.
The subject of the present invention is to reduce the amount of labour involved in the physical human process of laying paving slabs. A lightweight injection moulded replica of a paving slab containing two spirit levels at right angles to each other built into the body and two handles for manouevering achieves this. It is essentially hollow to reduce weight and has internal ribs for strength. Around the edges are graduation lines to indicate the depth of the sand and cement bed against neighbouring concrete slabs when in use.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig 1 shows the invention in perspective. with lightweight replica slab in position on sand and cement bed.
Fig 2 shows an end elevation of the invention.
Fig 3 shows a front elevation of the invention.
Fig; 4 shows a plan elevation of the invention.

Claims (7)

  1. CLAY MY
    A A Paving Slab Layer's Tool, its physical dimensions purposefully equal to the size of paving slab it will be used in conjunction with. The body of rhe tool serves temporarily as a lightweight replica of the original slab to be laid. The Paving Slab Layer's Tool is placed in the semi prepared prospective location of the original slab to be laid. Readings taken from the Inbuilt gauges are used to evaluate the amount of preparation work required for the successful laying of the concrete slab it is temporarily replacing.
  2. 2 A Paving Slab Layer's Tool as claimed in daim 1 wherein handles are provided on the top of the body for manouevering.
  3. 3 A Paving Slab Layer's Tool as daimed in daim 1 wherein two spirit levels are provided built into the body of the tool at right angles to each other.
  4. 4 A Paving Slab Layer's Tool as daimed in daim 3 wherein the two spirit levels are used to evaluate the level of the surface upon which the paving slab layer's tool is being used.
  5. 5 A Paving Slab Layer's Tool as daimed in daim I wherein graduarion lines are embellished around the edges of the body.
  6. 6 A Paving Slab Layer's Tool as claimed in claim 5 wherein the graduation lines are used to gauge the depth of the sand cement preparation below the surface of the body of the tool.
