Abstract
An adjustable paving layer comprises a body in the form of a straight edge, an adjustable leveller to prepare a base for paving, the body and adjustable leveller being adapted to allow controlled change of level, means for releasably securing adjustable leveller to body a right angle on adjustable leveller to accurately gauge paving thicknesses, means in the form of bedding depth adjusters to set for bedding depth and handles to control adjustable paving layer during levelling operation. <IMAGE>
Description
ADJUSTABLE PAVING LAYER
This invention relates to an adjustable paving layer. The method used in the laying of paving slabs is for a line to be set between the desired levels to be laid with paving, sand or other suitable material is spread on the base, using a trowel or similar flat piece of wood, the slab is then laid in position and bedded down with a tamper, the slab or paving may be lifted and relaid several times before the right level is achieved, with no assurance that the base is not hollow thus being liable to break when pressure is applied to the surface of slab or paving.
According to the present invention, there is provided an adjustable paving layer comprising a body in the form of a straight edge, an adjustable leveller to prepare base for paving, the body and adjustable leveller being adapted to allow controlled change of level, means for releasably securing adjustable leveller to body a right angle on adjustable leveller to accurately gauge paving thicknesses, means in the form of bedding depth adjusters to set for bedding depth and handles to control adjustable paving layer during levelling operation.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:

incline is attained by moving the leveller 23

of the body 16 is parallel with the

Refering to drawing in Fig.No. 1 the adjustable paving layer comprises a body 16 in the form of a straight edge to which a adjustable leveller* is releasably secured by hand screws 14 co-operable with slots 19 in the body 16 and slots 20 in the leveller and a hole in a tapered metal plate 17.
The body being adapted co-operable with slots 19 in the body and slots 20 in the leveller } to pivot on the screwed centre pin 10 either in an upward incline or a downward incline. After a controlled change of level, the body 16 is realigned by placing the edge of the body against paving surface until a straight edge is attained the hand screws 10 are re-tightened.
To gauge the thickness of paving to be laid the edge of the slab is placed between the edge of the body 16 and rightangle 21 with the slab firmly held between the two surfaces of and the hand screws 14 are re-tightened the bedding depth is preset by screwing round flat headed screw 12 until tight into tapped hole in the edge of the body 16 the levelling operation is controlled by the handles 15 on the body. For a controlled change of level the bottom edge of the body 16 is moved until it is parallel with the string line 22.

Claims (9)
- CLAIMS 1.A adjustable paving layer comprising a body in the form of a straight edge. A adjustable leveller to prepare a base of the exact depth for paving the body and the adjustable leveller being adapted to allow controlled change of level means for releasably securing adjustable leveller to body.A right angle on the leveller in conjunction with the body to accurately gauge the thickness of paving a tapered metal plate co-operable with leveller and body, to secure leveller during levelling operation. Bedding depth adjusters to pre-set bedding depth, handles to control paving layer whilst levelling base.
- 2.A adjustable paving layer as claimed in claim 1 wherein means are provided in the form of a* onclave and convex shape in the centre of the body, co-operable with screwed pin to secure body.
- 3.A adjustable paving layer as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 wherein means are provided in the form of a tapered metal plate co-operable with holes in the body to releasably secure paving layer.
- 4.A adjustable paving layer as claimed in claim 1 wherein means are provided in the form of an adjustable leveller co-operable with slots in the body, adjustable leveller, and a hole in the tapered metal plate to releasably secure leveller to body.
- 5.A adjustable paving layer as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 wherein means are provided in the form of a* onclave and convex shaped central body co-operable with tapered metal plate and screwed locking pin, to allow leveller to pivot in an upward incline or a downward incline.
- 6.A adjustable paving layer as claimed in Claim 1 wherein means are provided in the form of a right angle on the leveller co-operable with bottom edge of body to accurately gauge the paving thickness.
- 7.A adjustable paving layer as claimed in Claim 1 wherein means are provided in the form of bedding depth adjusters co-operable with tapped holes in the body to pre-set bedding depths.*Denotes Concave
- 8.A adjustable paving layer as claimed in any preceding claim wherein means are provided in the form of handles to control adjustable paving layer during levelling operation.
- 9.A adjustable paving layer substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 - 4 of accompanying drawings.
