Abstract
An anchor for fixing door or window frames in an opening in a wall, comprises a nut D which in use is received in a recess provided in the outer periphery of the frame so as to be flush with the outer periphery, and a screw C engaged in the nut D and having a drive head accessible via a bore in the frame so as to be rotatable by a hexagonal key or conventional screwdriver so as to force the disc A against the surface of the opening to hold the frame in position. The disc A may be flexibly connected to the screw C and have teeth, or may be omitted. <IMAGE>
Description
Flxing Anchors This invention relates to a fixing anchors for securing sub structures into an opening, for example, such as a window or door tiame to a wall.
It is common practice for a window or door frame to be fixed to a wall by drilling a bore of a predetermined diameter in the wall with a drill bit and inserting a tubular plastics anchor in the base. A screw is then placed freely through a pre drilled hole in the door or window frame and screwed into the anchor so as to cause the anchor to be deformed outwardly to lock the screw within the bore. Provided that the screw is screwed so that its head bears against the outer surface of the frame, the frame is therefor securely fixed in position with respect to the wall. However, such a method of fixing is can be time consuming, even when a power tool is used for driving the screw.
Further more, because a screw is made of metal and the force to turn the screw in certain circumstances may be considerable, there is a risk that the screw may shear and this can cause considerable difficulties.
It is the object of the invention to provide a novel anchor which may be used in such an application and which avoids some of the disadvantages associated with conventional fixing methods. Using the invention, drilling into the surround could be avoided
According to the present invention. Two grip discs are located one on top of the other, their centres being linked by a screw, that once turned, forces the two discs apart thus creating a retaining grip force between the sub-structure and the surround, for example a window to a wall.
A special embodiment of the invention will now be described by example with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 shows item D which is a locating disc for both locating the invention to the sub structure and locating the screw mechanism item C of figure 2.
Figure 2 shows item C which is a form of screw mechanism attached to the end of which is Item A of figure 3, the pressure pad.
Figure 3 shows item A the pressure pad.
Figure 4 shows items A C and D together.
Item D is located into a channel and through bore of predetermined width and diameter, of the sub structure so that (2) is located in the bore and (9) is seated in the channel so as to be flush with the outer surface of the frame, thus the head of item
C(6) is accessible through the bore so as to allow a means of screwing item C, by means of a hexagonal Allen bolt or conventional screwing method and that item A is facing outwards from the face of the sub-structure. The screwing action of item C thus forces item A apart form item D by nature of the helical thread of Item C(5) and threaded bore of item D ( 1 ) through which it is turned. The expansional force between items of D and A will be directly proportional the screwing action and subsequent rotation of item C in the threaded bore of item DF I ) and cause item A (7) to form into the surround that the sub-structure is to fixed into, for example, brick.
In a modification to the above described anchor, Item A may be dispensed of and a point on item C (3) be the means of applying pressure on the surround structure and the expansional force between items of D and the point of item C(4)will be directly proportional the screwing action and subsequent rotation of item C and cause the point of item C(4) to form into the surround that the sub-structure is to fixed into.
Item A is attached to item C by means of a press fit of (4) in the centre hole of item A and subsequently pinned over so as to avoid the two components separating.
Various non illustrated modifications of the above described anchor are also possible within the scope of the invention, For Example item D may consist of two components, a plate (3) with a centre hole so as to allow a pressure fit of a bush (2).
The bush would form the location into the bore of the substructure and subsequent seating of the plate (3) as to offer of similar function of item D. as if one component.
In a further modification the axial nature of the locating outer surface(2) of Item D which locates into the sub-structure, may have concentric rings about its diameter so as to offer a frictional action against it and the sub-structure it is fitted into.
In further modification item A (7) may have teeth or ridges so as to form into the surround when pressure is applied by the rotation of item C. Also, item C and item A may be formed as one component.
Claims (6)
- A A fixing anchor for securing a substructure, such as a window or door frame, into an opening, the fixing anchor comprising a locating member for engaging within a locating recess in the outer periphery of the substructure, and a screw member extending through a screwthread aperture in the locating member so as to result in movement apart of the locating member and a clamping end of the screw member to cause the clamping end to bear against an inside wall of the opening to lock the substructure within the opening.
- 2. A fixing anchor according to claim 1, wherein the screw member has a head which can be turned by a tool inserted through a bore in the substructure.
- 3. A fixing anchor according to claim 2, wherein the head is adapted to be turned by an Allen key.
- 4. A fixing anchor according to any preceding claim, wherein the clamping end of the screw member is provided with a plate to bear against the inside wall of the opening.
- 5. An anchor according to claim 4, wherein the plate is connected to the remainder of the screw member by a joint permitting limited tilting of the plate.
- 6. A window or door frame provided with a plurality of fixing anchors according to any preceding claim.
