Description
Laundry Carrier
This invention relates to a laundry carrier to aid hanging and pegging out of laundry on a washing line.
The traditional method of hanging laundry out on a washing line involves a rigid non collapsable, hand held basket containing the laundry, a peg bag (for clothes pegs) which hangs on the washing line.
The user has to lay the basket on the ground, bend down to pick up laundry items for pegging to the line and periodically move the peg bag and laundry basket along which involves bending up and down and walking to and fro.
Also when not in use the laundry basket is bulky to store.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which
Figure 1 shows a front perspective view of the laundry
carrier.
Figure 2 shows a rear perspective view of the laundry
carrier.
Figure 3 shows a plan perspective view of the laundry
carrier.
Figure 4 shows the positions of the rigid rods but
without the neck strap shown.
Figure 5 shows cross section 11 through rigid rods.
Figure 6 shows front view of laundry carrier being worn.
Figure 7 shows side view of laundry carrier being worn.
Figure 8 shows laundry carrier rolled up and tethered.
Refering to the drawings there is a open top container 1 made from a flexible material (such textile or plastic sheet or film or simular) with rigid rods 12 and 13 attached to or hemmed in by container 1 which define and maintain the top opening in container 1. There is a neck strap 2, which is attached at either end to container 1 at points 5 and 6, a neck strap length adjusting buckle 3, and side pockets (also flexible) 4, a front grip means 7 (which may be a slot or a handle fixed to container 1), and tethering means 8 (fixed to container 1 at point 20) with releasable co-operable fasteners 9 and 10 (such as press studs as shown).
In use the rolled up laundry carrier can be taken from storage, untethered and unrolled, the container 1 loaded with dirty linen and taken to the washing machine and washed.
When the washing is done the laundry may be loaded in to container 1, clothes pegs placed in the side pockets 4 and the neck strap 2 placed over the head and pegging out the laundry can begin.
The laundry may then be hung on the washing line without the need to bend down to a laundry basket on the ground or keep moving a peg bag along the washing line since the laundry and the pegs are carried hands free and within easy reach by the user.
The grip means 7 can be used to lift the front of the laundry carried in direction of arrow 14 to aid reach to the bottom of container 1.
Essentially taking the laundry down is a reversal of the preceding process.
To store the laundry carrier the neck strap 2 may be tucked in to container 1 (along perhaps with the clothes pegs), and the whole being rolled up and tethered as in Figure 8.
The next example shows the preferred method of attachment of the neck strap 2, to container 1 with reference to the following drawings.
Figure 9 shows exploded view of intermediate loop and
intermediate buckle in corner of container 1.
Figure 10 shows cross section 16 (NB. The container 1
section was not practical to show hatched).
In this example referring to the above figures the intermediate loop 17 is attached to container 1 at area of 19.
The intermediate buckle 18 would of course be threaded on to loop 17 at one end, while the other end of buckle 18 is threaded on to loop 21 at either end of neck strap 2.
The purpose of this arrangement is to distribute the load of the neck strap 2 on both surfaces of container 1 to avoid pulling from one side only of container 1 which looks unsightly and may lead to damage in that area.
Claims (7)
