Abstract

A pair of standard bicycles, are connected together one behind the other by means of the link. The link comprises a fixed bar or tube 1 fixed at each end to flexible joints 2, which are releasably connected to one of the two bicycle frames. The bar or tube 1 may be separable into sections when not in use. <IMAGE>

Description

BICYCLE LINK This invention relates to a removeable fixed link between one bicycle and another.
Tandem bicycles have two or more seats, one behind the other. Riders of a tandem share their motive power and remain in fixed physical proximity when riding.
Tandems are more heavily constructed than single bicycles, are relatively expensive and do not lend themselves to practical use by a single rider.
Non flexible links that allow the front forks of one bicycle with front wheel removed to be rigidly attached to the rear of a bicycle in front of it allow two bicycles of the same size to be connected but increase the load on and reduce the braking efficiency of each of the connected bicycles and incur friction and handling penalties as only the front one of three wheels can be used for steering.
According to the present invention there is provided a removeable flexibly jointed link which can be connected between two bicycles, which may be of different sizes, in such a manner as to allow the independant simultaneous movement in the horizontal and vertical planes of the two connected bicycles while retaining full functionality of each of the connected bicycles and allowing the motive power of the two riders to be shared.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 shows the link in position between two bicycles Referring to the drawing the link comprises a single fixed bar, rod or tube 1 fixed at each end to flexible joints 2 which allow movement of the bar, rod or tube 1 in any direction. The flexible joints 2 are each connected by a releasably secured bracket (not shown) to one of the two bicycle frames.
To remove the link from the bicyles the releasably secured brackets are reieased.

Claims (3)

1. A removeableflexiblyjointed link which can be connected between two bicycles. which may be of different sizes, in such a manner as to allow the independant simultaneous movement in the horizontal and vertical planes of the two connected bicycles while retaining full functionality of each of the connected bicycles and allowing the motive power of the two riders to be shared.
2. A link as claimed in Claim 2 in which the bar, rod or tube forming part of the link is in more than one part when not being used for its intended purpose.
3. A link substantially as described herein with reference to Figure 1 of the accompanying drawing.
