Abstract

An advertising sign which produces low smoke emissions in the event of a fire, comprises a substrate, eg an aluminium sheet, provided successively with a stoved powder coating, a stoved silk screen printed image, and a stoved coating of clear powder. The coatings, and also the inks used in screen printing, have low smoke-emission properties. <IMAGE>

Description

DURABLE SIGN SYSTEM This invention relates to the manufacture of durable signs used for the purposes of advertising, sign posting or any application where high durability is required in projecting a visual message to the general public.
Background It may well be that the manufacture of silk screen printing protected by a layer of clear powder coating has been used but probably not patented as yet, I request that patent but with the inclusion of the following.
Essential Technical Features This process is an extension of that system which is perfected as follow's.
TO SANDWICH SILK SCREEN INKS BETWEEN POWDER COATING.
Take a flat sheet of metal, (in this instance 1.5 gauge aluminium) apply a coating of low smoke emission colour matched powder coat (in this instance polyester base) to 60 microns in depth approximately. Stove in an oven at temperature of up to 200 degrees centigrade. Produce a silk screen from artwork, print as many colours as desired using low smoke emission inks on the surface of the already prepared powder coated surface, stove in an oven at up to 140 degrees centigrade. Prepare another coating of clear, low smoke emission powder coat and apply to product to depth of approximately 60 microns, then stove in an oven at temperatures of up to 200 degrees centigrade.
Note variations in powders and inks used in this process depending on their suitability to temperature and final colour requirements.
The further application of this system is in the production of advertising signs or any general signs where low smoke emission in the event of a fire is necessary for the safety of the general public.

Claims (7)

1) This system is usable in semi confined spaces where the general public are present, ie. Railway stations.
2) This system has low smoke emission.
3) This system is very durable.
4) This system has been tested at ground level for over 12 months, to date without sustaining any noticeable damage.
5) The front display area can be used for advertising visual messages and public information.
6) This system is lightweight and easy to affix.
7) This system can use virtually all printing ink pantone colours and four colour process images.
