Abstract

Outhouses, e.g. garden sheds or kennels, are constructed using components which, if intended for use on the exterior of the outhouse, have their exteriors formed of non-biodegradable materials, e.g. uPVC, polycarbonate or glass fibre reinforced resin. Such components include roof trim sections (10) and corner trim sections (11). The outhouses rest on floor bearers (6). Other components include a frame (5), walls (1, 2), roof panels (3), door (7),and floor sections (8, 9). <IMAGE>

Description

MAINTENENCE FREE AUXILIARY OUTBUILDINGS (INCLUDING GARDEN SHEDS, DOG KENNELS, PIGEON LOFTS, ETC) This invention relates to maintenance free auxiliary outbuildings.
Auxiliary outbuildings are widely used for the storage of tools and equipment, for hobbies and to house pets such as dogs, pigeons, etc.
Such buildings generally comprise a frame onto which is fixed an outer cladding and a roof. The cladding usually incorporates a door for access and a window for light.
Such buildings are usually constructed from timber, or more recently metal, both of which are subject to weathering and deterioration unless regulary maintained.
According to the present invention there is provided a structure comprising outer cladding (including the roof) which is inert to the effects of weathering, and resistant to termite/woodworm attack, by virtue of the material from which it is constructed, and therefore is maintenence free.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing, in Figure 1, which shows elevations, floor and roof sections, framing, door and floor bearers of a typical garden shed.
Referring to the drawing, the shed comprises a timber, metal or reinforced uPVC frame covered with tongued and grooved uPVC weatherboard to form the walls and with uPVC, polycarbonate or fibre glass sheeting to form the roof. The roof may be pitched or pent.
The floor may be from uPVC, fibre glass or timber.
All fixings, locks and hinges will be from commercially available types/designs.
Additional lagging and lining may be added on request to improve insulation properties.
Buildings are sectionable, expandable and transportable.

Claims (5)

1. Maintenance free auxiliary outbuildings wherein the outer surfaces of the structure are made from materials which are not subject to weathering and, as such, require no routine conditioning to combat decay resulting from atmospheric attack.
2. Maintenence free auxiliary outbuildings as claimed in claim 1 , wherein construction materials are fire retardent to BS 476 and BS 2782, are available in a number of colours and retain complete rigidity up to temperatures of 50 degrees Celcius.
3. Maintenance free structures as claimed in claims 1 and 2 wherein increased weather tightness is achieved by use of tongued and grooved cladding.
4. Maintenance free structures as claimed in claims 1,2 and 3 with good insulation properties which may be further improved by the inclusion of additional cladding/lining to internal surfaces.
5. Maintenance free structures as claimed in claims 1, 2, 3 and 4 which are sectionable and expandable to enable an increase in size, and are transportable.
