Description

2288819 DOUBLE-CYLINDER CIRCULAR KNITTING MACHINE The present invention
relates to a doublecylinder circular knitting machine for producing hosiery goods etc, provided with a carrying flange for the upper needle cylinder, a carrying flange for the bottom needle cylinder and a driving device for the upper needle cylinder.
It is known that double-cylinder circular is knitting machines producing hosiery goods are designed so that the bottom and the upper cylinders are mounted on carrying flanges that are joined together by pillars. The carrying flange for the bottom needle cylinder can be mounted directly as a part of the machine frame. The vertical shaft used to drive the upper needle cylinder also carried by both said flanges.
It is a drawback of this design that a fault in the knocking over or press-off devices is sometimes observed in the operation of this machine. In this case it is necessary to extract the upper needle cylinder which requires a lengthy disassembly of the controlling elements, cam casings and the needle cylinder itself.
It is an object of the present invention to overcome the above mentioned drawback.
According to the present invention there is provided a double-cylinder circular knitting machine for producing hosiery goods etc, provided with a carrying flange for the upper needle cylinder, a carrying flange for the bottom needle cylinder and a driving device for the upper needle cylinder, wherein the carrying flange of the upper needle cylinder is mounted swingably on a bracket fixed to the carrying flange of the bottom needle cylinder.
In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the carrying flange for the upper needle cylinder is mounted swingably on a vertical pin mounted on the bracket, whereby it is supported on the horizontal surface formed in the upper part of the bracket.
In another preferred embodiment of the present invention, an arcuate through-groove having its centre coincident with the swinging point of the upper carrying flange and passed through by the shaft of the driving device of the upper needle cylinder is formed in the carrying flange for the upper needle cylinder.
In another preferred embodiment of the present invention, a fixed gear is situated at the end of the shaft of the driving device of the upper needle cylinder and is engaged with a gear arranged in the upper needle cylinder.
In another preferred embodiment, a second arcuate through-groove is formed co-axially with the through-groove in the carrying flange of the upper needle cylinder, and is entered into by a vertical arresting pin mounted on the bracket.
An embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows a schematic arrangement of the needle cylinders of a double-cylinder knitting machine; and Figure 2 shows a schematic top view of the knitting head of the machine and the dashed lines show the upper needle cylinder swung to the side.
A double-cylinder circular knitting machine is provided with a bottom needle cylinder (1) and an upper needle cylinder (2). The bottom needle cylinder (1) is supported on a bottom carrying flange (3) mounted on the frame (4) of the machine. A bracket (5) is fixed on the bottom carrying flange (3). The carrying flange (6) for the upper needle cylinder (2) which is mounted here is supported on the upper horizontal surface (51) of the 1 bracket (5).
The carrying flange (6) is normally fixed to the surface (51) by screws (8), and is further mounted on a vertical pin (9) fixed in the bracket (5) so that it protrudes above the horizontal surface (51). This vertical pin (9) is located on the perpendicular line (K) erected from the centre of the axis of the vertical shaft (10) of the driving device of the upper needle cylinder (2) to the longitudinal axis (61) of the upper carrying flange (6).
The shaft (10) passes through the bottom carrying flange (3), the bracket (5) and the upper carrying flange (6), where it is provided with a gear (11) at its upper end which is engaged with a gear (12) of the is upper needle cylinder (2). This pair of gears is placed above the upper carrying flange (6). The shaft (10) passes through a first arcuate through-groove (52) which has its centre of curvature co-incident with the centre of the vertical pin (9). Further, a second arcuate throughgroove (53) is formed co-axially with the first arcuate through- groove (52) at a greater diameter in the upper carrying flange (6). This groove (53) is entered into by an arresting pin (54) mounted on the bracket (5). The grooves (52) and (53) are so formed that they extend from the shaft (10) and the arresting pin (54) respectively in the counterclockwise direction through an arc such that sufficient swinging of the upper needle cylinder (2) is ensured.
If it is necessary to replace the press-off rings, the operator of this machine proceeds as follows. The screws (8) are made loose and extracted. Thereby, the upper carrying flange (6) is made loose. Now, the upper carrying flange (6) is pushed to the side by hand together with the upper needle cylinder (2) and the cam casings, (of course after the respective cam head parts, eg. the pneumatic hoses or stranded wires controlling the cams are released). The pushing to the side is possible in the clockwise direction to a position where the second end of the through-groove (53) meets the arresting pin (54), as is shown by dashed lines in Figure 2. After the repair the upper carrying flange (6) is swung back until the first end of the through- groove (53) bears against the arresting pin (54).
Various modifications are possible within the scope of the present invention. For example, the vertical pin (9) can be integral with the carrying flange (6) and it can be journalled in the bracket (5). The arresting of the upper carrying flange positions can be also so designed that the arresting pin (54) is formed in the upper carrying flange (6) and the groove is formed in the horizontal surface (51) of the bracket (5).
