Abstract

The strapping mechanism comprising an operating arm (20) and a second arm (10) pivotally coupled together at a shaft (30), at least one ratchet gear (31) secured to the shaft, and a catch (21) slidably engaged in the operating arm. It has a spring (22) biasing the catch to engage with the ratchet gear and at least one opening (24) formed in the catch. It has at least one hook (14) extending upward from the second arm for engaging with the opening and for engaging with the catch so as to prevent the operating arm from rotating relative to the second arm.

Description

2287514 TITLE: STRAPPING MECHANISM HAVING A SAFETY DEVICE The invention
relates to a strapping mechanism having a safety device.
Typical strapping mechanisms comprise an operating arm rotatable relative to a another arm, and a special safety catch is provided for preventing the operating arm from rotating relative to the another arm. However, the operating arm can not be stably secured to the another arm and may also be rotated relative to the another arm inadvertently.
The invention is intended to provide a strapping mechanism having a safety device for preventing the operating arm from rotating relative to another arm.
FIG. 1 is a partial cross sectional view of a strapping mechanism; and FIGS. 2 and 3 are partial illustrating the operation of the Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, cross sectional views strapping mechanism.
a strapping mechanism comprises an operating arm 20 and a second arm 10 pivotally coupled together at a shaft 30, a pair of ratchet gears 31 secured on the shaf t 30, a stop 11 in the second arm 10, a spring 12 11 to engage with the ratchet gears 31 the ratchet gear from rotating in a direction in FIG. 2, two hooks 14 21 22 slidably engaged biasing the stop so as to prevent counterclockwise extended upward slidably engaged from the second arm 10, a catch in the operating arm 20, a spring 1 biasing the catch 21 to engage with the ratchet gears 31 such that the ratchet gears 31 and the shaft 30 may be rotated in clockwise direction (in FIG. 2), when the operating arm 20 is rotated relative to the second arm 05 10, the catch 21 including two openings 24 for engaging with the hooks 14. When the operating arm 20 is rotated relative to the second arm 10, the shaft 30 may be rotated in order to wound and tighten a cable around the shaft 30. 10 Referring next to FIG. 3, the hooks 14 may extend through the openings 24 when the catch 21 is pulled away from the ratchet gears 31, and may engage with the catch 21 when the catch 21 is released, such that the operating arm 20 may not be rotated relative to the second arm 10 and such that the tightened thread will not be released.
Accordingly, the strapping mechanism includes a safety device for preventing the operating arm from rotating relative to the second arm.
