Abstract

A rocking reclining chair comprising a seat part 10, backrest 12, leg support 13, two armrests 14 and releasing levers 15: the whole being mounted on two rockers 16. This chair can be used as an upright rocking chair, which quickly and easily reclines when the releasing levers are raised, so that the seat part and backrest tilt back and the leg support comes up in relation to the rockers. To come forward the user presses on the leg support with his legs and lifts the armrests. A stop 18 for the seat part is provided so that it comes to rest in a predetermined forward position, and so that the releasing levers are free to be engaged with the rockers. Adjustment is provided by means of a slot 21 in the armrests to allow the angle between the backrest and seat to be changed. <IMAGE>

Description

ROCKING RECLINING CHAIR This invention relates to a rocking reclining chair.
Reclining chairs and rocking chairs are well known and are available in many different styles.
There are some rocking reclining chairs, which rely upon a complex metal subframe mounted on springs - this mechanism allows the user to turn a lever which reclines the chair, and all the while it rocks gently on the springs.
These rocking reclining chairs, however, are complex, time consuming to build and expensive. The fully reclined position on these chairs is limited to the horizontal.
The invention as shown here comprises a seat part, a backrest, a leg support, two armrests and means for releasably securing and controlling the whole mechanism on rockers, wherein adjustment means is provided to alter the angle between the backrest and seat part.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows, in perspective, the chair in an upright rocking position.
Figure 2 shows, in perspective, the chair in a reclined position.
Figure 3 shows a front view of the chair and section line A-A Figure 4 shows, in cross-section A-A, the releasing of the reclining mechanism.
Figure 5 shows, in cross-section, an end position of the reclining mechanism.
Referring to the drawings, the chair comprises a seat part 10, a backrest 12, a leg support 13, two armrests 14 and two releasing levers 15. The whole is mounted on two profiled rockers 16. These parts are joined to each other by bolts 17 (or hinges or similar means) which allow all the parts to move in relation to each other As shown in Figure 4, the releasing levers 15 are shaped (or fixed or configured otherwise) so as to locate firmly over the end of the rockers 16, and at the same time the seat part 10 is prevented from dropping further forward by some means (in this case a dowel 18) thus securing all the other parts of the chair in an upright position.
In order to release the chair into a reclined position, the releasing levers 15 are lifted on both sides as shown in Figure 2 and Figure 4 in the direction of the arrows 19 so that the seat part 10 can rotate back and up at the same time as the leg support 13 is released to rotate upwards thus pushing on the armrests 14 which tilts the backrest 12 backwards. The releasing levers 15 remain fixed to the leg support 13 all the while by means of a slot 20 (or other means), so that the seat part 10 rotates only so far and then stops. Figure 2 and Figure 5 show the reclining mechanism in a fully reclined position.
In order to bring the chair back forwards to the upright sitting position, the user pushes down with the legs on the leg support 13 at the same time as pulling up on the armrests 14. When the seat part 10 has reached the stop dowel 18, the releasing levers 15 are pushed down into place to lock the chair into an upright rocking position, as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 4.
The chair has a means of adjusting the angle of the reclining position, for example here in Figure 4 by means of a slot 21 in the armrests 14, so that the armrests 14 can be lifted and adjusted either forwards or backwards.

Claims (7)
