Endless-chain machines ; tamping machines ; feeding materials.-In tile machines of the type in which material is discharged upon moulds or .pallets and moved past pressing and smoothing devices, a single element is employed having two surfaces, the first of which pats the material to the desired thickness whilst the second smooths the surface of the tile. As shown, the element comprises a member 28 oscillated about a shaft 30 bv a crank 35 and furnished with a relatively flattened patting surface 40 merging into a cylindrical smoothing surface 39. The moulds or pallets 23 are traversed by chains 24 beneath a hopper 11 having an adjustable discharge gate 15 adjacent to which is arranged the element 28. Excessive accumulation of material at the gate is prevented by a baffle 21. Specification 228,826 is referred to.
