Abstract

A jewellery clasp comprises a body (2) and a tongue (3) that can be fitted inside the body (2). The body (2) has two parallel facing portions (4, 5) joined by outer connection columns (6). The tongue (3) is flexible and has a general "U" shape and has grooves (9) facing the connecting columns (6). One of the portions (4) of the body (2) has parallel grooves (11) and a set of perpendicular further grooves (13) on the free surface of ribs (12) between the grooves (11). <IMAGE>

Description

BROOCH FOR COSTUME PIECES AND JEWELLERY The present invention relates to a brooch, particularly for use in costume pieces and jewellery.
The brooch of the invention may be used as a clasp to close necklaces, and offers improved safety over those currently on the market.
Some brooches are difficult to operate since the surfaces in contact with the fingers are smooth and present the problem that perspiration makes the fingers slip when trying to open the clasp of the brooch.
It is an object of the brooch of the invention to overcome this problem, by providing the external surface as an uneven surface marked by grooves formed on the face.
Accordingly the present invention provides a brooch for costume pieces and jewellery formed by two connectable pieces one inside the other; wherein a first said piece has two spaced parallel facing portions joined by outer connection zones; and the second said piece which is flexible has a generally "U" shape and has on the parallel branches cutouts facing said connection zones of the first piece; and wherein one of the two said parallel portions of said first piece has on its external face parallel grooves defining spaced parallel ribs on which are formed further grooves extending across the outer surface of each said rib.
The said second piece, that attaches inside the first piece, is formed by a type of spindle with two lateral grooves that connect with the closure in two facing vertical walls on the external piece.
Both pieces have on their opposite ends hooks to take the ends of the necklace.
The external piece of the brooch has a curvo-convex surface with parallel and inclined grooves or depressions that form ribs which, in turn form lines perpendicular to the grooves.
As is obvious, the brooch may be modified in its form provided the fundamental principle of the invention is not altered.
In order to make it possible to understand more easily not only the construction but also the use of the brooch of the invention, reference will now be made below, merely by way of example, to a practical embodiment which is in no way to be taken as limiting the scope of the invention. In the drawings: FIGURE 1 shows a front view of the brooch of the invention; FIGURE 2 shows a partial longitudinal section of Figure 1; and FIGURE 3 shows a front view of the brooch of the invention without external profiling obscuring the internal detail.
The drawings show the brooch 1 of the invention specially designed for use in costume pieces and jewellery as a closing element or clasp for a necklace, not shown.
The brooch 1 is formed by two pieces 2 and 3.
Piece 2 has two spaced parallel portions 4 and 5, joined by vertical connection columns 6. Portion 5 has at one end a prolongation 7 defining an eyelet that forms one of the attachments for the necklace.
Piece 3, which has a generally "U" shape, forms an edge that has parallel branches 8 with grooves 9 that engage the facing vertical columns 6. Also piece 3 has an end 10 defining an eyelet that forms the other attachment for the necklace.
Portion 4 of piece 3 has a curvo-convex shape and has inclined and parallel grooves 11 that form ribs 12 with transverse lines of further grooves 13, which are mutually parallel and also perpendicular to the grooves 11.
Having sufficiently described the nature of the invention, and the manner of putting it into practice, it should be noted that the above layouts indicated and represented in the attached drawings, may be modified in detail provided the fundamental principle, defined by the following claims, is not altered.
