Abstract
A recyclable waste disposal kit, which in its simplest form is a sectioned bin for the segregation of everyday household waste. The bin comes in two forms one for use indoors and one outdoors, each of which may be attached to another of the same design. The bin is assembled to provide four identical compartments 23 within one bin. Each compartment may be refreshed by interchanging with an empty from the external bin or all four at once may be replaced by using the pivoted handle 24 provided on the segmented frame 22. In addition to these compartments the internal bin provides extra storage near its base. A recyclable waste disposal kit comprises a shell (11) having means enabling attachment of shell (11) to another similar shell (11), a segmented frame (22), four identical individual compartments (23) which slot into the housing provided by the segmented frame and a cover (15). The bin comes in two forms - one for use indoors and one for use outdoors. In addition to compartments (23), the indoor bin is also provided with extra storage (12) near its base. <IMAGE>
Description
RECYCLABLE WASTE DISPOSAL KIT
This description refers to a recyclable waste disposal kit.
Currently every home has some form of waste disposal container in the kitchen. In the majority of cases it comes in the form of a bin, so for future reference in the description a waste disposal container will be called a bin.
The state of our environment is becoming an increasing issue amongst us and more and more people are trying to help undo some of the less beneficial aspects of 'progress'. One such aspect is the use of land-fill sites. This can be minimised by recycling as much of our waste as possible. There are a number of industrial recycling waste bins situated at various sites around the towns to encourage recycling and they are being used extensively. This is commendable but the collection of the different items for recycling can get quite untidy as one generally has these articles stored in various locations around the home. This reason alone deters a considerable number of people from segregating their waste, and encourages the disposal of all waste into a conventional bin.
According to the present invention there is provided a recyclable waste disposal kit, which in its simplest form is a sectioned bin, comprising a shell, the shell having means of being attached to another shell of the same design, a segmented frame, four identical compartments which slot into the housing provided by the aforesaid segmented frame and a cover.
The invention is described as a kit because, there are two types of bin both providing the same function, one is intended for use indoors and the other outdoors. Each bin is assembled from a number of parts, some of which are interchangeable.
The two bins have been designed to compliment each other but one bin may be used without the other.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 shows in perspective the internal sectioned bin with
the lid open;
Figure 2 illustrates the assembly of the external bin;
Figure 3 shows the individual compartments housed in the
segmented frame with the catchment means (not shown)
in use;
Figure 4 shows in perspective two external bins attached.
Referring to the internal bin, the shell 11 is tapered to make it stackable. It has an opening 12 near the base of one side intended for the storage of newspapers and magazines. The shell has a means of attachment to enable it to be joined to another shell 11. A handle 13 is on two of the sides to ease the moving of the shell. The segmented frame 22 sits inside the neck of the shell. This provides the housing for the individual compartments 23. It has a handle 24 which pivots to enable it to lie flat when not in use. This handle allows the removal of all four compartments at once. The frame will have a catchment means provided, to secure it to the four compartments so that when removed from the shell it doesnt slip to the ground should these parts combined be put down prior to slotting into a shell. The individual compartments are all identical.They are tapered to make them stackable.
Each compartment has a moulded handle 25 on two opposite sides to ease the removal of a single compartment should it be filled prior the others. The four compartments are intended for the segregation of: glass/plastics; food/drink cans; cardboard packaging; and other non-recyclable waste. The depth of the individual compartment is such that it is not visible through the cut out section of the shell. The cover 14 sits on top of the shell. It consists of a hinged lid 15 which sits just inside the perimeter. The lid when open gives access to all four compartments at once for the disposal of waste.
To assemble the internal bin, slot the segmented frame 22 into the shell 11. Insert the four individual compartments 23.
Once they are in place, the cover 14 is put on top.
To disassemble, the above steps are done in reverse.
With regards to the external bin, the shell 21 is tapered to make it stackable. It is of a more robust design than the internal equivalent as it needs to cope with the ever changing weather. A handle 27 is provided on two sides to facilitate moving. It has the means of being able to attach one bin to another side by side should a number of bins be needed. The cover 26 sits on top of the shell. It has a moulded handle on the top to enable the cover to be lifted off.
To assemble the external bin, slot the segmented frame 22 into the shell. As for the internal bin the segmented frame sits inside the neck of the shell and the four individual compartments 23 sit in the sections. Once the four individual compartments have been placed in position the cover 26, is put on top of the shell.
To disassemble, the above steps are done in reverse.
Parts 22 and 23 have been designed in such a way that they fit into both the internal and external shells.
