Abstract

The mobile telephone shield 14 as illustrated in Figure 4 protects the mobile user from the mobile telephone's electromagnetic radiation by use of a shield which is at least the length and the width of the mobile telephone's aerial 11. The shield is situated between the user and the mobile telephone's aerial. This shield can also function as a wave guide because it can guide the electromagnetic radiation to and from the mobile telephone. The mobile telephone shield can be used for all forms of mobile telephony such as cellular and Private Mobile Radio. The shield can be used for all national and international standards to which mobile telephones are manufactured; for all the different power classes or effective power of radiation (ERP) that mobile telephones emit. This shield could also be fitted as an integral and retractable part of all new mobile telephones or as a separate item for existing mobile telephones. <IMAGE>

Description

MOBILE TELEPHONE SHIELD This invention relates to a mobile telephone shield Mobile telephones are currently used without any form of barrier between the user and the mobile telephone itself. If a mobile telephone user has a mobile telephone installed in his/her vehicle, the user may get some protection from the mobile phone's electromagnetic radiation depending on where the aerial is positioned on the body of the vehicle.
According to the present invention there is provided a barrier or shield that would protect the user's body from the mobile telephone's electromagnetic radiation. This barrier or shield can be fitted in such a way that the mobile telephone would still be able to function normally. The shield can be an integral part of the mobile telephone and can be retractable into the mobile telephone's body along with the aerial; or the shield can be permanently fixed in position around a mobile aerial; or the shield can be a separate item which is fixed to the telephone only when it is in use. This shield can be used by all mobile users irrespective of: the national or international standard to which the mobile telephone operates to; the function (eg.,Private Mobile Radio,) for which the mobile telephone is used for; the power output or class of the mobile telephone.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:- Figure 1 shows in perspective, a typical example of an existing handportable mobile telephone.
Figure 2 shows in perspective, a typical example of an existing transportable mobile telephone.
Figure 3 illustrates an example of a mobile telephone shield.
Figure 4 shows the shield in position on the handportable mobile telephone Figure 5 shows the shield in position on the transportable mobile telephone Referring to the drawing, the mobile telephone comprises a body 10, an aerial 11, a keypad 12, and a display 13 although not all mobile telephones have or need a display.
In order to protect the user from the mobile telephone's electromagnetic radiation a shield has to be used between the user's body and the mobile telephone. An example of a possible shield is illustrated in Fig 3. This shield has to be made from a material which is capable of shielding the user from the electromagnetic radiation of the telephone.
In Fig 4 the shield 14 is shown attached to the handportable mobile telephone although the method of attachment is not shown.
The shield will be positioned between the user's head and body and the mobile telephone's aerial.
In Fig 5 the shield 14 is shown attached to the transportable mobile telephone although the method of attachment is not shown.
The shield will be positioned between the user's head and body and the mobile telephone's aerial.

Claims (9)

1 A mobile telephone shield is at least the length of the mobile telephone's aerial and wider than the mobile telephone's aerial and is used to shield the mobile user from the mobile telephone's electromagnetic radiation.
2 The mobile telephone shield as claimed in Claim 1 has to be made from a material that shields the mobile user from the mobile telephone's electromagnetic radiation.
3 The mobile telephone shield as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 can be made as an integral part of the mobile phone or manufactured separately for existing mobile telephones.
4 The mobile telephone shield as claimed in Claim 1, Claim 2 and Claim 3 can be detachable if the user requires this feature.
5 The mobile telephone shield as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 can be used for any national or international standard to which mobile telephones operate to.
6 The mobile telephone shield as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 can be used for any type of mobile telephone use, for example, Private Mobile Radio, Cellular Radio etc., to which mobile telephones are made.
7 The mobile telephone shield as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 can be used for any output power to which the mobile telephone operates to.
8 The mobile telephone shield as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 can be so designed that it acts as a wave quide guiding the transmitted and received electromagnetic radiation from and to the mobile telephone's aerial.
9 A mobile telephone shield substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 3-5 of the accompanying drawing.
