Abstract

A demountable construction system for indoor or outdoor use involves the use of vertically-adjustable floor frames, spaced slightly from each other to define slots into which panels, fencing, etc can he mounted, together with posts 6 of cruciform section, the latter sitting on lower flanges 2 of corner brackets 1 which also carry the height-adjustment means. <IMAGE>

Description

DESCRIPTION DEMOUNTABLE FLOOR DECKING AND BUILDING SYSTEM The invention relates to a demountable floor decking and building system.
Decking is a well known floor construction comprising a slatted plank surface connected to a rigid frame structure raised above ground level on fixed legs. The frame structure is normally either set into the ground surface, or placed upon it.
The use of floor decking is well known where floor surfaces are uneven, slippery, wet, soft or dirty. Floor decking is usually constructed as a 'one-off' product in response to a specific application.
According to the present invention there is provided a number of demountable floor decking units of various sizes:- 1.2m xl.2m, 1.2m x 0.9m, 1.2m x 0.6m (or equivalent proportions) which sit onto the ground surface. Each floor decking unit includes the means to connect to other similar floor decking units to form a continuous floor surface, and the facility to vary height through adjustable legs, to overcome undulations in ground level. At the intersection of floor decking units the means has been provided to insert and attach equal and unequal cruciform section posts to enable balustrades, fencing panels, display panels, building panels, awnings and furniture to be erected.
The method of assembly and erection enables the floor decking units and super structural elements to be demounted.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective a typical floor decking unit in the process of erection.
Figure 2 illustrates a cut away view of a corner assembly bracket seen from inside a floor deck unit.
Figure 3 illustrates a cut-away view of a corner assembly bracket seen from outside a floor deck unit with an equal cruciform section post indicated.
Figure 4 illustrates a cruciform post inserted between two floor deck units.
Figure 5 illustrates an unequal cruciform section post inserted at the outside extreme edge of a floor decking unit.
Figure 6 illustrates the use of an unequal cruciform section post to carry wall panelling for light weight buildings.
Referring to Figure 1, frames are constructed using a corner bracket, 1 in each corner. The outside faces of the decking frames have spacers, 4 fixed to them as illustrated in Figure 2. Spacers create a gap when decking frames are bolted together, into which may be inserted cruciform posts, 6/8 illustrated in Figure 3 and Figure 6, and floor plates,9, as illustrated in Figure 4 and 6.
The slatted plank floor 10 illustrated in Figure 6 is made as one assembly and can be lifted out to enable adjustment of each threaded leg 3. for floor levelling, and to connect frames with adjacent frames by bolt fixings 5, as illustrated in Figure 2.
To add on light weight building panels, Figure 6, or fencing and balustrading as shown in Figures 4,5 on top of the floor decking, equal or unequal cruciform sectioned posts are inserted at the intersections of floor decking frames Figure 3. This is accomplished whilst bolts are 'finger tight.
Cruciform posts slide down between deck frames until they are arrested by the projecting flange 2 of the corner bracket shown in Figure 3.
As the bolts, 5 are then tightened a compressing action is exerted through the location of the bolt in relation to the spacer 4 on the inserted surfaces of the cruciform post, clamping it firmly in place. This is illustrated in Figure 3.
Panels, slats, frames or rails can then be connected to the flanges of cruciforms by screws or bolts as shown at 7 in Figure 4, 5, and 6.
To demount the superstructure elements and floor decking frames the steps described above are carried out in reverse sequence.

Claims (4)

  1. DEMOUNTABLE FLOOR DECKING AND BUILDING SYSTEM
CLAIMS 1A demountable floor decking system comprising rigid frame units of modular sizes which will accept slatted or solid floor panels and which provide means for adjustment of height and alignment and when connected together provides a gap to insert equal or unequal cruciform section posts onto the flanges of which can be fitted panels, frames and rails.
  2. 2 A demountable floor decking system as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the means to connect frame members together and provide height adjustment is provided by a corner assembly bracket.
  3. 3 A demountable floor decking system as claimed in Claim 1 and 2, wherein the arrestment of the cruciform section posts is provided by the corner assembly brackets.
  4. 4 A demountable floor decking system as described in Claim 1, wherein the means to provide a regular dimensioned gap between frame units is provided by the means of a fixed spacer.
