Abstract

A lockable door or window comprises a door or window member mounted in a frame. The door or window member is movable preferably slidably, from an open position to a closed position in which an edge of the door or window member abuts an internal face of the frame. The edge of the door or window member is formed by an elongate capping member (8) to which is fitted a lock case (1). The internal face of the frame which abuts the edge is provided with a projection such as headed stud (20) which in the closed position engages in an aperture (9) provided in the capping member (8). The lock case (1) is operably linked to locking means for preventing disengagement of the projection (20) from the aperture (9) thereby locking the door or window member in the locked position. In the example the locking means comprises sliding plates 5, 7 which have keyhole slots 10 for engaging the headed studs. <IMAGE>
