Abstract
227,527. Rothband, H. L., and Mandleberg & Co., Ltd., J. Oct. 17, 1923. Waterproofing; proofing processes and compositions.-In the proofing of artificial-silk fabrics, the fabric is coated or impregnated with paraffin wax or other waxes or compounds of stearic acid, such as stearin, Japan wax, or spermeceti, before or after the coating with india-rubber. In an example, the fabric is rubber-proofed at one side in a spreading machine and is then impregnated with aluminium formate or acetate or other proofing salt, the wax being thereafter applied to the fabric from a molten bath by one or more engraved rollers. Artificial-silk threads may be coated or impregnated with wax dissolved in a solvent before the fabric is woven, the latter being then coated with india-rubber.
