Abstract

The external speedometer is an electrical system which connects the vehicle central speedometer to panels affixed to the front and rear of motor vehicles indicating the various range of speeds the vehicles are travelling. <IMAGE>

Description

External and Visible Speeaometer This invention relates to external and visible speedometers for motor vehicles.
A speedometer is an instrument which measures the speed at which a motor car or motor vehicle is travelling.
Speedometers are incorporated in the panel on the inside of motor vehicles and are for use to the driver to give the speed at which the vehicle is travelling.
With the aspect of safety in mind and the danger and problems on exceeding laid down speed limits and to help police to regulate speeds, it is necessary that other users of the road and pedestrians are aware of the range of speed the vehicle is proceeding in the same manner that the aforesaid police, other road users and pedestrians can see the vehicles signalling and braking signals when activated.
The purpose of the invention would be to connect the central speedometer by an electrical system to a series of panels affixed to both the front and rear sections of the vehicles and to give the range of the speed on the vehicles.
The panels which may be of different shapes or sizes of one colour or different colours enclosed in a protective transparent cover would automatically light up and display at what speed range the vehicle is travelling.
Examples of the embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figures 1 and 2 show in perspective the panel described in the invention as follows: The range of speeds classified in Panel A would be Zero to 30 miles/41 kilometres per hour, Panel B would be 30 miles/41 kilometres per hour to 40 miles/62 kilometres. Panel C would be 40 miles/62 kilometres per hour to 70 miles/104 kilometres per hour. Panel D would notify the vehicle was travelling in excess of 70 miles/104 kilometres per hour.

  1. Claim
    An external and visible speedometer in the form of panels on the front and rear of motor vehicles is activated by an electrical circuit from the central vehicle speedometer to the panels thus giving the range of speed at which the vehicle is travelling.
