Abstract
A container 10 for make-up such as lipstick, lip colour or concealing makeup comprises a base 11 which defines a series of recesses 12 which are preferably all of the same dimensions. These recesses are designed to receive small receptacles or goudets. The goudets will contain the appropriate make-up. A structure 14 in the shape of an extinct volcano is disposed centrally of the recesses and its crater provides a mixing surface 15 and a surrounding retaining wall 16. Openings 17 may be provided in the wall 16 so that make-up can be pushed from the goudet on to the mixing surface 15 without needing to be scooped out. Make-up of differing shades and colours, from those goudets can be mixed on the mixing surface 15 in order to achieve the desired shade or colour. <IMAGE>
Description
Point of Sale Display This invention relates to point-of-sale displays for make-up and alternatively or additionally the containers for make-up.
Currently make-up manufacturers offer a -vast range of shades of lipsticks, but despite this the precise shade wanted by the user is often not available or even if the shades and colours are available any particular user may have to invest considerable sums in acquiring the various tubes of lipstick. Further the packaging of these lipsticks is excessive and wasteful. Similar comments apply to concealing make-up but there the range of colours and shades tends to be extremely limited.
From one aspect the invention consists of a point-ofsale display comprising at least one container having a plurality of recesses for receiving respective receptacles containing lipstick, lip colour, concealing make-up or other mixable make-up and an array of receptacles containing makeup of different colours or shades there being more colours or shades than there are recesses in the container.
Preferably the receptacles are identical to each other and are in the form of goudets which may be arranged in the array in spring-loaded stacks of respective colours or shades so that the upper visible part of the display is replenished as receptacles are removed.
The container preferably includes a flat surface for mixing the make-up in the containers so that the user can achieve a desired shade and may also contain a lip brush or other applying or mixing tool. The mixing surface may be in the form of a plateau surrounded by the recesses and may have a peripheral wall for retaining the make-up during the mixing process. The wall may have restricted openings associated with the recesses through which make-up can be pushed from the receptacles on to the mixing surface.
The container may be in the form of a compact and may contain a mirror.
The invention further comprises a container as defined above and including a container containing mixable make-up of different shades or colours and a mixing surface on which the make-up can be mixed. The mixing surface may be centrally disposed with respect to the make-up and may be surrounded by a wall. The wall may have openings associated with the different colours or shades through which make-up can be pushed on to the mixing surface.
In a further arrangement the container may include a sheet member removably mountable in the container to overlie the make-up receptacles, the sheet member having openings through which the make-up can be accessed and a portion forming a mixing palette.
The sheet member may be slid into facing grooves in the container or be held with one edge engaged in a recess or rebate.
In additionally or alternatively at least some of the receptacles may be interconnected and held in a common recess. This would normally be a starter pack and an insert defining the plurality of recesses could subsequently be provided for receiving the goudets once the user has had practice at mixing colours.
Although the invention has been defined above it is to be understood it contains any inventive combination of the features set out above or in the following description. It also includes a method of applying make-up including mixing lipstick or lip colour to achieve a particular shade.
The invention may be performed in various ways and specific embodiments will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which;
Figure 1 is a view of a container for make-up with the lid open;
Figure 2 is a vertical cross-section through the container of Figure 1; and
Figures 3, 4, and 5 to 7 show plan views of alternative containers of the invention.
As can be seen in Figure 1 a container 10 for make-up such as lipstick, lip colour or concealing make-up comprises a base 11 which defines a series of recesses 12 which are preferably all of the same dimensions. These recesses are designed to receive small receptacles or goudets, one of which is shown at 13 (Figure 2). The goudets 13 will contain the appropriate make-up.
It will be understood that if the recesses 12 are filled with goudets 13 containing make-up of differing shades and colours, then the make-up from those goudets can be mixed on the mixing surface 15 in order to achieve the desired shade or colour.
It is intended that the container be used as part of a point-of-sale display in association with an array of goudets containing a range of colours or shades greater in number than the number of recesses 12 in the container 10.
The users can then select the particular combination of shades or colours they desire. This provides a system which is extremely flexible and which is extremely economical in packaging because only the goudets need to be disposable.
Preferably the goudets 13 are arranged in the array in spring-loaded vertical stacks of the same shade or colour so that the array is automatically replenished as any goudet 13 is selected.
An alternative arrangement is shown in Figure 3, where the container 10 is provided with a number of pre-filled recesses 12. An application tool 18 is illustrated in the form of a brush but any other appropriate tool may be provided. In this arrangement the mixing surface 16 is at the front of the container.
The alternative shown in Figure 4 comprises a container with a removal mixing palette 15 having openings 20. Figure 5 illustrates a container having a single recess 21; Figure 6 illustrates a make-up containing tray 22 for insertion in the recess 21 and Figure 7 shows a mixing palette 15 for overlying the tray 22 when mounted in the Figure 5 container.
