Abstract

A pool safety frame is used to prevent fatal accidents around pools. The frame comprises tubular uprights (4) and rails (3) interconnected by jointing pieces, e.g. (1) in which the tubes are held by grub screws (6). Base plates (5) are filled on to the bottoms of the uprights, and a cover may be filled to the frame, to extend over the pool. <IMAGE>

Description

THIS INVENTION RELATES TO A POOL SAFETY FRAME.
SWIMMING POOLS AND FISH POOLS ARE BECOMING COMMON PLACE IN RESIDENTIAL GARDENS AND PARKS. WITH THE INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF POOLS, HAS COME AN INCREASE IN WATER RELATED ACCIDENTS.
ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT INVENTION, THERE IS PROVIDED A FRAMEWORK, THAT CAN BE CONSTRUCTED TO SUIT THE DIMENSION OF INDIVIDUAL POOLS, USING A KIT OF JOINTING PIECES AND TUBING. A MEANS FOR RELEASABLY SECURING A SUITABLE COVER OVER THE FRAMEWORK, IF NEEDED, AND A MEANS OF ANCHORING THE FRAME WORK TO THE GROUND AND ANY ADJOINING WALLS.
A SPECIFIC EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION WILL NOW BE DESCRIBED BY WAY OF EXAMPLE, WITH REFERENCE TO THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS IN WHICH: FIGURE 1 SHOWS IN PERSPECTIVE, THE FRAMEWORK PUT TOGETHER, IN A SIMPLE FORM, AS USED FOR A SMALL SQUARE SHAPED POOL.
FIGURE 2 ILLUSTRATE THE WAY THE JOINTING PIECES AND TUBING, SLOT TOGETHER.
FIGURE 3 SHOWS A VERTICAL PIECE OF TUBING. FIXED INTO A FOOT ANCHOR JOINT.
FIGURE 4 SHOWS AN ALTERNATIVE JOINTING PIECE.
FIGURE 5 SHOWS A VERTICAL TUBE, WITH THREE HORIZONTAL PIECES ATTACHED.
FIGURE 6 SHOWS MORE ALTERNATIVE JOINTING PIECES.
REFERRING TO THE DRAWINGS, THE POOL SAFETY FRAME, COMPRISES VARIOUS JOINTING PIECES 1, 7, 9 AND 5, WHICH ARE USED TO FIX TOGETHER THE HORIZONTAL TUBES 3, AND THE VERTICAL TUBES 4, AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 2.
THE DIMENSIONS OF THE POOL ARE MEASURED, AND THE HORIZONTAL TUBES 3, ARE CUT TO LENGTH. THE VERTICAL TUBES 4, ARE CUT SO AS TO GIVE THE POOL SAFETY FRAME THE DESIRED HEIGHT.
IF THE HORIZONTAL TUBES ARE OF INSUFFICIENT LENGTH, TWO OR MORE, CAN BE FIXED TOGETHER, USING THE APPROPRIATE JOINT.
DEPENDING ON THE SHAPE OF THE POOL, THE DESIRED JOINTING PIECES ARE USED. IN THIS CASE JOINT 1.
WHEN THE FRAME HAS BEEN CONSTRUCTED AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 1, THE TUBES 4 AND 3, ARE FIXED INTO THE JOINTS 1, 7, 9 AND 5, USING GRUB SCREWS 6 OR A SIMILAR METHOD.
THE FRAME CAN NOW BE ANCHORED TO THE FLOOR, USING SCREWS, BOLTS OR SOMETHING SIMILAR, THROUGH THE ANCHOR HOLES 8, OF THE FOOT JOINT 5, AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 3.THE FOOT JOINT 5, CAN ALSO BE USED TO FIX THE HORIZONTAL TUBES 3, TO WALLS, WHEN REQUIRED.
ENDCAPS 2, ARE FITTED TO TUBE ENDS WHEN LEFT OPEN TO THE ATMOSPHERE. ONCE THE POOL SAFETY FRAME HAS BEEN FINISHED, A SUITABLE COVER IS FITTED TO THE FRAME, USING A SUITABLE FASTENING MECHANISM.
THE POOL SAFETY FRAME, CAN BE USED AS A BARRIER, AROUND LARGER POOLS, BY ADDING MORE HORIZONTAL TUBES 3, TO THE VERTICLE TUBES 4, AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 5. IN THIS CASE NO COVER IS NEEDED.

Claims (9)

1. A POOL SAFETY FRAME COMPRISING A FRAMEWORK THAT CAN BE CONSTRUCTED TO SUIT THE DIMENSIONS OF INDIVIDUAL POOLS, USING A KIT OF JOINTING PIECES AND TUBING. A MEANS OF RELEASABLY SECURING A SUITABLE COVER OVER THE FRAMEWORK, AND A MEANS OF ANCHORING THE FRAMEWORK TO THE GROUND AND ANY ADJOINING WALLS.
2. A POOL SAFETY FRAME AS CLAIMED IN CLAIM 1. WHEREIN A MEANS IS PROVIDED ON EACH JOINTING PIECE, FOR SECURING THE HORIZONTAL TUBING IN PLACE.
3. A POOL SAFETY FRAME AS CLAIMED IN CLAIM 1, OR CLAIM 2, WHEREIN A MEANS IS PROVIDED ON EACH JOINTING PIECE, FOR SECURING THE VERTICAL TUBING IN PLACE.
4. A POOL SAFETY FRAME AS CLAIMED IN CLAIM 1, OR CLAIM 2, OR CLAIM 3, WHEREIN EACH EXPOSED TUBE END, IS PROVIDED WITH A WEATHER PROOFING CAP.
5. A POOL SAFETY FRAME AS CLAIMED IN ANY PRECEDING CLAIM, WHEREIN JOINTING PIECES ARE PROVIDED IN VARIOUS SHAPES AND SIZES, SO AS TO ACCOMMODATE INDIVIDUAL POOL DIMENSIONS.
6. A POOL SAFETY FRAME AS CLAIMED IN CLAIM 5, WHEREIN THE FRAME CAN BE USED AS A BARRIER AROUND POOLS WHERE A COVER IS NOT APPROPRIATE.
7. A POOL SAFETY FRAME AS CLAIMED IN ANY PRECEDING CLAIM, WHEREIN THE JOINTS AND TUBES ARE MANUFACTURED FROM MATERIALS PROVIDING SUFFICIENT STRENGTH AND ECONOMY.
8. A POOL SAFETY FRAME AS CLAIMED IN CLAIM 7, WHEREIN THE TUBES AND JOINTS ARE COATED WITH A WEATHER PROOFING LAYER.
9. A POOL SAFETY FRAME SUBSTANTIALLY AS DESCRIBED HEREIN, WITH REFERENCE TO FIGURES 1-6 OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS.
