Abstract

A hanger for a garment (e.g. briefs), includes an elongated support bar 12 having a central part 14 located substantially in a plane, the central part having an end part 16, 18 at each of its ends, the end parts extending from the same side of the central part away from the plane in which the central part of the support bar is located. The hanger further includes suspension means 20 for suspending the support bar from a support structure, such as a rod; and a number of garment attachment hooks 24, 26, 28 joined to the support bar and extending in a direction facing away from the suspension means. The end parts are curved or angled. <IMAGE>

Description

FIELD OF INVENTION The present invention relates to hangers.

More particularly, the invention relates to hangers for garments.

SUMMARY OF INVENTION According to the invention, a hanger for a garment includes a) an elongated support bar having a central part located substantially in a plane, the central part having an end part at each of its ends, the end parts extending from the side of the central part away from the plane in which the central part of the support bar is located; b) suspension means for suspending the support bar from a support structure such as a bar rod; and c) a number of garment attachment hooks joined to the support bar and extending in a direction facing away from the suspension means.

The end parts of the support bar may be provided as curved sections.

The end parts may be provided as straight sections.

The end parts may be bent at between 15 and 60 away from the plane.

The hanger may be injection moulded of suitable synthetic plastics material.

The suspension means may in the form of a hook.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying schematic drawings.

In the drawings there is shown in: Figure 1 a front view of a hanger in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 a plan view seen along arrow II in Figure 1; Figure 3 a plan view similar to Figure 2 but showing a different shape at the ends of the support bar; and Figure 4 a plan view similar to Figure 2 but showing a further shape at the ends of the support bar.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS Referring to Figures 1 and 2 of the.dr,avings, the hanger, generally indicated by reference numeral 10, includes an elongated support bar 12 having a central part 14 and two end parts or arms 16, 18 extending outwardly from its opposite ends. A suspension hook 20 is joined to the central part 14.

The hook 20 and the central part 14 are located in a plane 22 as indicated in Figure 2.

The end parts 16, 18 are curved away from the plane 22 as shown in Figure 2.

As the end of the parts 16, 18 end hooks 24, 26 are provided and intermediate garment attachment hooks 28 extend downwardly from the bar 12. A garment 30 is attached to the hanger 10 by hooking over the end hooks 24, 26 and being attached at two appropriate intermediate hooks 28 as shown in Figure 2.

As is shown in Figure 2 by means of the curvature of the arms 14, 16 out of the plane 22 the garment 30 (e.g. a brief) when fitted to the hanger 10, has a curved and therewith "fuller" appearance seen in the direction of arrow 32 in Figure 2. It does not merely present a flat shape, which is unnatural and does not correspond to the shape of the part of a human body on which such a garment is worn. This is an important feature when displaying merchandise for sale in stores in order to make the garment attractive and appealing to a potential customer.

Referring to Figure 3, the same reference numerals will be used to indicate similar parts as in Figures 1 and 2 but with the addition of the suffix .1. Here the central part 14.1 and end parts 16.1, 18.1 do not constitute a continuously curved bar with the central part 14.1 (as in Figures 1 and 2) but are provided in straight sections.

The end parts 16.1, 18.1 extend at about 300 away from the plane 22.1.

Similarly, as shown in Figure 4, where the reference numerals are provided with the suffix .2, the end parts 16.2, 18.2 (which are longer than the parts 16.1, 18.1 of Figure 3) are at an angle of about 30 to the plane 22.2.

The hanger 10 (or 10.1, 10.2) is injection moulded of suitable plastics material.

Claims (7)

PATENT CLAIMS:

1.0 A hanger for a garment, which includes a) an elongated support bar having a central part located substantially in a plane, the central part having an end part at each of its ends, the end parts extending from the same side of the central part away from the plane in which the central part of the support bar is located; b) suspension means for suspending the support bar from a support structure, such as a rod; and c) a number of garment attachment hooks joined to the support bar and extending in a direction facing away from the suspension means.

2.0 A hanger as claimed in claim 1, in which the end parts of the support bar are provided as curved sections.

3.0 A hanger as claimed in claim 1, in which the end parts are provided as straight sections.

4.0 A hanger as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, in which the end parts are bent at between 15 and 60 away from the plane.

5.0 A hanger as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, which is injection moulded of suitable synthetic plastics material.

6.0 A hanger as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, in which the suspension means is a hook.

7.0 A hanger substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying schematic drawings.
