Steering and balancing. - In aircraft having ailerons to control lateral balance and wing flaps which may be additional to or identified with the ailerons for varying the camber of the main planes, the aileron control cables or rods are connected to levers 14<a> on the ends of hollow transverse shafts 14 substantially wholly enclosed within a hollow casing 15 which can be rotated about bearings at its ends by means of a lever 19 to actuate the wing flaps. The ailerons in the apparatus shown act also as wing flaps and are movable in the same or opposite directions on the two sides of the machine. The inner ends of the shafts 14 have bevel wheels 12, 13 geared to a bevel wheel 11 on a spindle 10 in a central housing 6. The spindle carries a plate 9 engaged by rollers on a two armed lever mounted on a second spindle supported by brackets on the central housing 6, the pilot's control lever being mounted on the end of this second spindle.
