Abstract
A method of carving a portrait, or the like, on a card 2 utilizes a partition plate 5 with a transparent portion and an opaque portion and movable with the card, and a photo-sensor 6 to detect the transparent portion or opaque portion of the partition plate so as to send a signal to an electronic switch 7 to selectively control a literal visual frequency camera 9 or a diagram visual frequency camera 8 which actuates a driving device 4 to control a needle 2 to work in a line-carving mode or a point-carving mode, whereby a portrait or the like may be rapidly carved on a card. <IMAGE>
Description
TITLE: A METHOD OF CARVING PORTRAIT OR THE LIKE ON A CARD
This invention relates to an improved method of carving portrait or the like on a card.
It is found that the prior art portrait carving method takes a rather long period of time to carve a portrait on a card hence making it unfit for mass production. Referring to FIG. 2A, there is shown a prior art portrait carving method. In case the area to be carved is 65 X 40 square millimeters, Y = DX (Y is the scanning speed in Y axis), while X is the scanning speed in X axis, and D=1/5 mm, then the required horizontal scanning will be 65 X 5=325 times. The solid line shown in FIG. 2A represents the carving for characters, notations...etc. while the dotted line represents portraits or the like. Hence, the llne-carving must be completely carried out prior to the point-carving.
Thus, it will take a rather long period of time to accomplish the portrait carving thereby rendering it unfit for mass production.
Therefore, it is an object of the present invention to provide an improved portrait carving method which may obviate and mitigate the above-mentioned drawbacks.
This invention relates to an improved method of carving portrait or the like on a card.
It is the primary object of the present invention to provide a method of carving portrait or the like on a card which may reduce the reciprocating time of the carving platform.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a method of carving portrait or the like on a card which may decrease the oscillating time of the carving platform.
It is still another object of the present invention to provide a method of carving portrait or the like on a card which may reproduce a portrait with complete fidelity.
It is still another obect of the present invention to provide a method of carving portrait or the like on a card which may shorten the carving time.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a method of carving portrait or the like on a card which is easy to be carried out.
Other objects and merits and a fuller understanding of the present invention will be obtained by those having ordinary skill in the art when the following detailed description of the preferred embodiment is read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
FIG. 1 is a block diagram showing the method of carving portrait or the like on a card according to the present invention;
FIG. 2A shows the prior art portrait carving method;
FIG. 2B shows the method of carving portrait or the like on a card according to the present invention; and
FIG. 3 shows the carving track of the needle.
With reference to the drawings and in particular to
FIG. 1 thereof, a carving platform 1 is provided and driven by an electric motor (not shown) to reciprocate horizontally. A card 2 is designed to be carved and its area to be carved is first coated with black or blue paint. A needle 3 ls provided for carving the card 2.
The needle 3 is driven by a driving device 4. A partition plate 5 is connected with the carving platform 1 so that they can be moved together. The partition plate 5 is a flexible film made of plastic, or a sheet of glass, one half of which is transparent while the other half of which is opaque. A photo-sensor 6 is mounted on the partition plate 5. The photo-sensor 6 is controlled by an electronic switch 7. A diagram visual frequency camera 8 is provided to move and scan synchronously in unison with the carving platform 1. A literal visual frequency camera 9 is provided to move synchronously with the carving platform 1 and has the same function as the diagram visual frequency camera 8 but move in different direction.The outputs of the diagram visual frequency camera 8 and the literal visual frequency camera 9 are connected with the driving device 4 via the electronic switch 4. An adjusting device 10 is provided for regulating the wave form of the diagram visual frequency camera 8.
As shown in FIGS. 2A and 2B, the former shows the prior art portrait carving method while the latter the present portrait carving method. As illustrated, the scanning speed in Y direction depends on the scanning speed in X direction. That is, Y=DX, D being the density of the scanning line. If D=1/Smm, then the movement in Y direction will be lmm in every five times of round trip in
X direction.
As shown in FIG. 2B, only 40 X 5 = 200 times of scanning are required if the area to be carved is 65 X 40 square millimeters. Hence, in comparison with the prior art, the carving time required according to the present invention will become shorter. However, it is necessary to have the needle chanqe from line-carving mold to point-carving mold and vice versa. Tne change is accomplished by the partition plate 5 shown in EIG. I. As the partition plate 5 is moved in unison with the carving platform 1 on which is mounted the card 2 (see FIG. 2B), the needle 3 will first work at the llne-carving mold and the literal visual frequency camera 9 is actuated.When the photo-sensor 6 detects the opaque portion of the partition plate 5, the photo-sensor 6 will send out a signal to the electronic switch 7 to turn off the literal visual frequency camera 9 and turn on the diagram visual frequency camera 8. In the meantime, the driving device 4 will be actuated to change the working of the needle 3 from line-carving mold to point-carving mold. When the photo-sensor 6 detects the transparent portion of the partition plate, the photo-sensor 6 will send out a signal to the electronic switch 7 to turn off the diagram visual frequency camera 9 and turn on the literal visual frequency camera 8. Meanwhile, the driving device 4 will be actuated to change the working of the needle 3 from point-carving mold to line-carving mold.
Hence, according to the present invention, the carving mold may be changed in the same horizontal carving. Further, it is noted that the partition plate 5 may be provided with a plurality of opaque and transparent portions to change the carving mold of the needle.
Although the present invention has been described with a certain degree of particularity, it is understood that the present disclosure is made by way of example only and that numerous changes in the detail of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
