Abstract
Live sound A from a microphone is applied to inductive device 1. Magnetic induction is used to mix the live sound from the microphone with sound recorded on a tape 2 by influencing the playback head 3. There is no electrical connection between the tape player and the microphone and so the mixer can be formed as a compact, separate unit (see Fig. 2). The mixer may be used in a Karaoke system. <IMAGE>
Description
MAGNETIC SOUND MIXER
Invention: a sound mixer to mix recorded and live sound.
Sound mixers are generally used in many forms in the entertainmant industry for adding many sounds together for recording or broadcast purposes.
In its' portable form many artists use 'sing along' box comprising cassette deck, amplifier, mixer and loud speaker.
The artist produces a professional sound, singing along with backing tracks.
This system is famouns in Japan in the 'Karaoke' bars.
This invention is a unit which may be used to add sound to any personal, home or professional tape machine. The pocket sized mixer is simply fastened somewhere near the tape head. The signal to the mix is amplified to drive a solenoid. The magnetic waves from the solenoid are induced into the tape head of the existing tape machine. When the machine is in 'play' mode the sounds are effectively mixed with no electrial connection.
Attached sheet drawing (1) Shows the principle used. Sound in electrical amplified form is supplied to drive solenoid '1' with signal 'A'.;.
There is now a magnetic sound signal in the core.
The tape '2' moves past the tape head '3' and a signal is induced in the tape head in' the normal: way. The magnetic signal 'B' is added to this to produce a mixed output at 'D' for feeding to amplification.
Attached sheet drawing (2) shows a practical case shape 'F' for mixer.
This shows that physically compact it can easily sit over the tape machine 'G' with simple fixing 'E'.
Attached sheet drawing (3) shows a complete electrical diagram of a magnetic mixer. The aerial socket 'I' feeding F.M. radio microphone signal in through demodulator 'H'. A direct microphone input is available through socket 'J' feeding to 'L' the preamplifier, tone and volume adjustment may be at this point. The signal passes then to the effects block (reverb. Echo and Etc) 'M'. A socket 'K' is available here for auxilliary output and input. This then feeds to the final power drive amplifier stage 'N'. The amplifier load is the solenoid 'R' producing the-varying magnetic field in sympathy with the sound. Sockets are added for power out 'Q', Head phones '0' and external tape machine 'P'.
101 & 'P' being used where magnetic induction is not effective or desirable.
Claims (1)
- (1) A unit for mixing recorded and live sound without electrical connection to a tape machine.(2) A compact mixer unit for 'Karaoke' bar type use with any tape machine.(3) A personal sing along unit for artists, musicians and others.
