Abstract

226,385. Trier, V. A. Jan. 22, 1024. Vibration-dampers.-A flexible mounting for the bearing members by which the outer ends of the arms or links of shock absorbers of the friction type are secured to the sprung and unsprung portions of a motor vehicle, comprises a disc of vulcanized fabric or other flexible but substantially inextensible material interposed between the bearing member and its support so as to permit of relative angular movement, but not of any appreciable radial movement. The shockabsorber arms or links A, each of which may comprise a pair of parallel plates or a plate with an attachment A<2> riveted thereto, are formed with circular apertures B at their outer ends filled by flexible discs C of vulcanized fabric &c. secured peripherally by rivets C<1>. At or near the centre of the disc C an aperture is formed to receive a bearing for a pivot E carried by the vehicle &c. The bearing comprises a pair of flanged members D secured to the disc by rivets D<2>, and a sleeve or lining F. The flexible disc may be formed of a number of layers as shown, or of fibrous material moulded about the centre-bearing member, which may be suitably flanged. Alternatively the bearing member may be moulded within the disc, being formed with flanges and riveted.
