Description

1 LOCKING FITTING The invention relates to a locking fitting for a door,
window or the like, such as a lock, espagnolette or bolt espagnolette, comprising, on the one hand, one or several locking organs at the level of the wing, capable of co-operating with keepers on the sash-frame and subjected to springy means for restoring them into locking position and, on the other hand, a clamping member springily restored into an unlocked maintaining position of the locking organ or organs and co-operating with unclamping means integral with the sash-frame and acting in the direction of moving of the wing to release the clamping member and allow the restoring into locking position of the locking organ or organs when closing the wing.
This invention will find its appliction in the field of the building ironmongery.
As a matter of fact, viz. from FR-A-2,469,534 and FR-A- 2,500,874 are already known locking fittings meeting the above description. As a matter of fact, in these prior documents, these are more particularly espagnolettes or bolt espagnolettes which include at least an operating rod provided with locking means such as rol- lers, railwheels or the like capable of co-operating with keepers arranged on the sash-frame. This or these operating rod or rods is (are) subjected to springy means for restoring them into locking postion. These known espagnolettes or bolt espagnolettes are furthermore provided with a clamping member made integral with the face-plate generally inserted into the front edge of the wing of the door, window or the like, the function of this clamping member being to maintain the operating rods unlocked when the door or window is in open position. It should be noted that this clamping member is springily restored into this unlocked maintaining position of the operating rod. In addition, when closing the wing against the sash- frame, it is capable of co-operating with unclamping means integral with this sash-frame in order to finally disengage from the operating rod or rods and allow their restoring into locking position. These unclamping means act onto said clamping member, particularly in the direction of moving of the wing, i.e. perpen- 2 dicularly to the plane of the door, window or the like.
According to FR-A-2,469,634, the clamping member has a leg paralel to the front face of the face-plate and includes a second perpendicular leg the protruding front end of which co-operates with the unclamping means while the rear end is capable of lodging itself into a slot made in the operating rod when immobilizing same in unlocked position. As far as the unclawping means are concerned, these are in the form of a thrust inserted into the sash-frame and which is capable of acting onto the second leg of the clamping mem- ber when closing the door, window or the like, this so as to disengage the rear end of this second leg from the operating rod with a view to enable the restoring of this latter into locking position.
As regards the clamping member described in FR-A-2,500,874, it is is in the form of a stud arranged at the free end of a lever parallel to the face-plate and pivoting about a spindle located at its other end and arranged perpendicularly to the outer face of the face-plate. Thus, once the door or window is open, springy means cause the lever to tilt towards the sash-frame. This tilting results into the immobilization of the operating rods in unlocked position, this through a second lever placed at the inner side of the face-plate and made integral in its movement with the aforesaid lever.
When closing the wing, the stud forming the clamping member arranged at the lower end of the lever outside the face-plate cooperates with the unclamping means which may be formed by either the very fillister of the sash-frame or the bottom of an opening made in a keeper arranged in this fillister of the sash-frame. Under the action of this co-operation, the lever is then pushed back into its initial position while taking with it the second lever placed on the inner side of the face-plate, leading to the unlock- ing of the operating rods and the restoring of same into locking position through springy means. Finally, one notices that the unlocking of the operating rods, irrespective whether in the solution proposed in FR-A-2, 469,534 or 35 in that proposed in FR-A-2,500,874, strictly depends on the moment 3 at which the clamping member enters into co-operation with the un clamping means. Now, it is obvious that this unlocking of the operating, rods or whatever locking organ is concerned should take place at the right moment, i.e. when these locking organs or the railwheels corresponding to the operating rods are in front of their corresponding keeper on the sash-frame.
When installating the above-described kind of locking fitting corresponding to FR-A-2,469,734 and FR-A-2,500,874, it is possible to make sure the unclamping means are in the right position with respect to the clamping member, so that the springy restoring of the locking organs into locking position takes place at the desired moment.
Nevertheless, these operating conditions necessarily change in the course of time, more particularly because of distortions or changes in the position of the wing with respect to the sash-frame of the door, window or the like. It should be noted that these distortions or changes in position can be the reason for a change in the length of the fillister, either in the direction parallel to the plane of the door or window or perpendicularly to this latter.
of course, the combination of both these distortions can lead to a conical-volume fillister.
It is obvious that such distortions directly impede the operation of the locking fitting, since they are the reason for an either too early or too late unclamping of the locking organs and, hence, of the restoring of same into locked position.
This invention is particularly aimed at coping with this problem by allowing to adjust the position of the unclamping means with respect to the clamping member depending on the distortions the door, window or the like may suffer in the course of time. It should be noted that this possibility of adjusting the unclamping means with respect to the clamping member furthermore leads to considerably facilitating the mounting of the locking fitting onto the wing and the sash-frame of the door or window in that this mounting can be carried out to broader adjusting tolerances, since a final adjustment is possible.
4 TO this end, the invention relates to a locking fitting for a door, window or the like, such as a lock, espagnolette or bolt espagnolette, comprising, on the one hand, one or several locking organs at the level of the wing, capable of co-operating with keepers on the sash-frame and subjected to springy means for restoring them into locking position and, on the other hand, a clamping member springily restored into an unlocked maintaining position of the locking organ or organs and co-operating with unclamping means integral with the sash- frame and acting in the direction of moving of the wing to release the clamping member and allow the restoring into locking position of the locking organ or organs when closing the wing, characterized in that said unclamping means include adjusting means according to a direction parallel and perpendicular to the plane of the door, window or the like for adjusting their position with respect to the clamping member and the moment of their entering into co-operation with this latter when closing the wing against the sash-frame.
Through such adjusting means according to a direction parallel and perpendicular to the plane of the door, window or the like, the positioning of the unclamping means with respect to the clamping member can meet all states of distortion of the wing with respect to the sash-frame, either a widening or a narrowing of the fillister, a change in depth of this latter or even a conical-volume fillister. 25 As already stated above, such adjusting means find their usefulness both further to a change in position of the wing with respect to the sash-frame and when mounting the clamping fitting onto same. Further aims and advantages of this invention will become clear during the description which follows and related to one embodiment which is given only as an example and is not exhaustive.
This description will be better understood with reference to the attached drawing in which:
- Figure 1 is a front view of the unclamping means according to the invention, - Figure 2 is a side view of the unclamping means as shown in Figure.1, Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view according to Iii-III of Figure 1, - Figure 3A is a view identical to Figure 3, but corresponding to another embodiment, - Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view according to iv-iv of Figure 1, - Figure 5 is a schematical view of the co-operation between the unclamping means on the sash-frame and a clamping member locat ed on the wing of a door, window or the like and the function of which is to clamp any locking organ whatsoever in unlocked position of said door or window.
This invention as shown in Figure 5 relates to a locking fit- ting 1 for a door, window or the like, which locking fitting 1 may be a lock, espagnolette or bolt espagnolette.
Thus, this locking fitting 1 includes one or several locking organs 2, 3, 4, 5 located at the level of the wing 6 and capable of co-operating with keepers 7, 8 located on the sash-frame 9. It should be noted that in the case of locking organs in the form of operating rods 4, 5, these are then provided with locking members such as rollers, railwheels or the like which in turn co-operate with keepers accordingly arranged on said sash-frame 9.
As a matter of fact, the locking fitting 1 this invention is more particularly related to includes springy restoring means (not shown in the drawings) which are capable of restoring said locking organs 2, 3, 4, 5 into locked position when closing the door, window or the like, this according to a technology known to the Specialist, viz. from FR-A-2,469, 534 and FR-A-2,500,874.
Such a locking fitting 1 is furthermore provided with a clamping member 10 capable of immobilizing the locking organ or organs 2, 3, 4, 5 in unlocked position when the door, window or the like is open. More particularly, this clamping member 10 is subjected to springy means (not shown), so that it be restored, right from the separation of the wing 6 from the sash-frame 9, into this unlocked 6 maintaining position of the locking organ or organs 2, 3, 4, 5.
on the other hand, when closing the door, window or the like, this clamping member 10 co-operates with unclamping means 11 accordingly arranged on the sash-frame 9, this so as to release said clamping member 10 and to allow the restoring of the locking organ or organs 2, 3, 4, 5 into locking position. It should be noted that these unclamping means 11 act onto the clamping member 10 in the direction of moving of the wing 6, i.e. perpendicularly to the plane of same.
As remembered above, it is important for this co-operation be- tween the clamping member 10 and the unclamping means 11 to take place exactly when the locking organ or organs 2, 3, 4, 5 and, viz. the railwheels or rollers the operating rods 4, 5 are provided with, are located in front of their keeper arranged on the sash- frame 9. Therefore, this cooperation should be adjusted during the mounting of the locking fitting 1 onto the door, window or the like or it should also be possible to modify this adjustment in the event of a displacement of the wing 6 with respect to the sashframe 9, viz. further to distortions. These latter may indeed re- sult into a change in the dimensions of the fillister between the wing 6 and the sash-frame 9, this in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the door, window or the like or parallel to this latter. Furthermore, a combination of such distortions may lead to a conicalvolume fillister.
Thus, according to the invention, the unclamping means 11 include adjusting means according to a direction parallel 12 and perpendicular 12A to the plane of the door, window or the like for ad justing their positioning with respect to the clamping member 10 and, finally, for making sure of their entering into co-operation at the right moment.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, said unclamping means 11 are in the form of a tripping arm 13 capable of co-operating, more particularly, with the clamping member 10 in the direction of moving of the wing 6. As a matter of fact, the means 12 authorizing an adjustment according to a direction perpendicular 7 to the plane of the door, window or the like consist in a hinged mounting of this tripping arm 13, at the level of its one end 14 onto a fixing plate 15 inserted onto the sash-frame 9. Thus, said tripping arm 13 is capable of pivoting about a hinging spindle 16, more particularly, perpendicular to the direction of moving of the wing 6 and its free end 17 may extend forwards either towards the wing 6 or in an opposite direction, which allows a fit co-operation of the unclamping means 11 with the clamping member 10. It is thus possible to cope with an eventual dysfunction of a locking fitting caused either by an increase or a decrease of the depth of the fillister or by a change in the dimension of this latter according to a direction parallel to the plane of the door, window or the like.
These means 12 for adjusting the unlocking means 11 according to a direction perpendicular to the plane of the window, door or the like are completed by a member 18 for controlling the rotation, but also for clamping this tripping arm 13 in a given angular position.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, this member 18 consists of an eccenter 19 comprising, on the one hand, a eccentered finger 20 engaged into a hole with a fit diameter 21 made in the f ixing plate 15 and, on the other hand, a circular body 22 inscribed in a slot 23 made in the tripping arm 13. It should be noted that this slot 23 may be so determined that the circular body 22 be limited in its rotation to an angle of about 180 degrees. 25 of course, other organs for controlling the rotation or immobilizing the tripping arm 13 may be considered without departing from the object of this invention. As regards the adjusting means 12A according to a direction parallel to the plane of the door, window or the like, they con- sist, according to a first embodiment shown in the Figures, of springy means 24 interposed between the tripping arm 13 and the fixing plate 15, so as to keep these members separated from each other, the separation depending in turn directly on an adjusting screw 25.
As a matter of fact, this adjusting screw 25 substantially 8 forms the hinging spindle about which is brought to pivot the tripping arm 13.
Thus, this latter includes, at the level of its end 14 and on its rear face 26, a cylindrical tip 27 with an outer diameter fit with the inner diameter of a hole 28 present at the level of the front face 29 of the fixing plate 15. On the bottom 30 of this cylindrical tip 27 and the bottom 31 of the hole 28 rest the ends of a helical spring 32 forming the springy means 24 and the outer diameter of which is fit with the inner diameter of said cylindrical tip 27.
The adjusting screw 25 coaxially passes straight through the cylindrical tip 27 and the hole 28, its head 33 resting onto the front face 34 of the tripping arm 13 while its end 35 co-operates with either a nut resting onto the rear face 36 of the fixing plate 15 or a tapped hole 37 made in the bottom of the hole 28 of said fixing plate 15.
According to another simpler embodiment shown in Figure 3A, these adjusting means 12A according to a direction parallel to the plane of the door, window or the like are formed by a hinging spindle 41 of the tripping arm 13 rotatingly mounted onto the fixing plate 15. This hinging spindle is furthermore externally threaded at its portion 42 protruding with respect to the front face 29 of said fixing plate 15, so that this threaded portion is capable of co-operating with a tapped hole 43 in the tripping arm 13. Thus, once the mounting has been carried out, it is enough to control this hinging spindle in rotation by means of an actuating organ, such as a hexagonal wrench or a screwdriver for there to be a displacement of the tripping arm 13 according to a direction parallel to the plane of the door, window or the like. It should be noted that the hinging spindle has, at the level of its free end accessible through the tappeld hole in the triping arm 13, a specific arrangement with a view to receiving either such a hexagonal wrench or a screwdriver.
Advantageously, the tripping arm 13 and generally the unclamping means 11 as defined above adopt a symmetrical structure with z 9 respect to a vertical median plane 38, so that these unclamping means 11 be reversible.
In this respect, it should be noted that the clamping member 10 is very generally located on a face-plate 39 inserted onto the front edge of the wing 6. Therefore, said unclamping means 11 will preferably be installed in the fillister of the front stile corresponding to the sash-frame 9.
Furthermore and as can be seen in this Figure 5, said unclamping means 11, and more particularly their fixing plate 15, can be part of a keeper 40 inserted onto said sash-frame 9 and capable of receiving one or several locking organs 2, 3.
The advantages of this invention are certain in that it gives rise not only to an easy mounting of a locking fitting corresponding to the abovedescribed type, but furthermore enables consequent adjustments which are often necessary further to distortions and displacements of the wing with respect to the sash-frame.
Although the invention has been described with respect to one particular embodiment, it is obvious that it is no way limited thereto and that various modifications in shape, material and com- binations of these various elements may be made to same without therefore departing from the spirit of the invention.
