Class 44, [Also in Group X] A locking latch construction for doors or the like includes in combination a fixed door surround frame member 1 of hollow sheet material and generally channel cross section which is formed with a longitudinal rebate 2 along an edge thereof adjacent one side (referred to hereafter as the inner side) to receive the free edge of the door, the part of the frame member which constitutes the surface of the rebate which lies adjacent to the edge surface of the door when in its closed position (referred to hereafter as the edge surface) having a cut away 3 over part of its longitudinal length for substantially the full width of this edge surface, a hollow open-sided box like attachment 7 secured (e.g. by welding within the frame member behind this cut-away aperture 3 with its open side facing towards the aperture, and having a flange or side wall 7a lying in a plane generally parallel to the inner side of the frame 1 but on the outer-side of the door when in its closed position, this flange or side wall 7a being formed with a longitudinal slot 11, and a striking plate 4 arranged to be adjustably secured substantially flush with the edge surface of the rebate, and formed of sheet material of generally channel cross section and having outwardly turned flange extensions at the free edges of the channel, one of such flange extensions 4b being arranged to lie against the edge section 2a of the inner side of the frame member which defines one edge of the cut-away aperture, with the channel portion lying within the cutaway aperture to form a locking recess or latching slot when the other flange extension 4c extends through the slot 11 in the flange or side wall of the box like attachment, so as to permit the position of the striking plate to be adjusted on the plane of the edge surface of the rebate. The contacting surfaces of the flange 4b and edge 2a are roughened. In addition to being fixed to the member 7 by the tongue 4c the plate 4 is also secured to the member 7 by two screws which pass through elongated apertures 5 in the base of the channel into tapped holes 10 in the member 7. The screws pass through a washer plate positioned in and fitting the bottom of the channel, the washer plate having two elongated holes at an angle to those in the channel so that the position of the striking plate can be adjusted. Two circular washers each with an eccentrically positioned hole may be used instead of the single washer plate. The door flange may also have a screw passing through it which engages a tapped hole x in the side of the channel to adjust the position of the striking plate.
