Description

GOLF TROLLEY This invention relates to a trolley. It has primarily been devised for use as a golf trolley for transporting a golf bag on a golf course, but could find other uses for example for transporting fishing or shooting equipment.
There are known various forms of golf trolley intended to be propelled by hand, and there are also golf buggies, which are motorised vehicles adapted to carry both a player and his or her golf clubs. Golf buggies are very expensive and, unless provided for hire on a course, are rarely used.
There has not been any satisfactory proposal hitherto which enables the player to transport clubs on a hand propelled trolley, but which also enables the player to sit down when not playing. However, the player often has to wait on the course for accompanying or preceding players to take shots, and such a trolley would be desirable.
It is an object of the invention to provide a new or improved trolley, primarily for use as a sports trolley.
According to the invention, there is provided a trolley comprising a base frame, a support frame adapted to support an article to be transported on the trolley and connected to the base frame, handle means connected to the support frame, seat means connected to the base frame and wheel means connected to the base frame for transporting the trolley.
The trolley may have its handle means and seat means pivotally mounted so as to be selectively movable between operative and inoperative positions and detent means may be provided to hold the seat means and handle means in their operative positions when selected.
Preferably, the support frame is pivotally mounted on the base frame.
The wheel means may be detachable from the base frame.
In a preferred embodiment, the entire trolley can be folded down to a relatively flat configuration for storage.
A trolley embodying the invention will now be described in more detail by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: FIGURE 1 is a side elevational view of a trolley in an "in use" configuration; FIGURE 2 is a rear elevational view of the trolley shown in Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, a trolley is generally indicated at 10 and comprises a base frame 11 of tubular steel, a support frame 12 pivotally connected at one end of the base frame 11, and a seat means 13 connected to the base frame at its other end.
The seat means 13 comprises a rectangular frame 14 having a seat 15 of box form mounted at its upper end. The box seat has a padded lid 16, hinged to the main body of the box at 17.
The box can be used for storage of golf balls, tees, glove, towel and other small items needed by the golfer.
In use, the trolley is capable of supporting a golf bag, which is rested on an arcuate support 18 at the upper end of the support frame 12, with its base mounted on the base frame.
The bag is retained in position without the need for any securing ties, since its base abuts the end of base frame 11 at 28 which acts as a stop and rests on cross tube 29 of base frame 11. It can therefore be mounted and removed with ease.
The lower end 19 of the upright frame 14 of the seat means 13 acts as a ground-engaging support for the trolley when it is stationary. To move the trolley, it is pivoted about the wheels by downward pressure on the handle 21 and towed or pushed in conventional manner using a handle 21. The handle 21 may be of any convenient form, and is pivotally mounted on the support frame 12.
The upright frame 14 of the seat means 13 is also pivotally mounted, in this case on the base frame 11. For both these pivotal mounts, detent means 22 are provided, so as to retain the parts in the "in use" condition. The detent means 22 comprise a sleeve 23, concentrically mounted on the respective frame members, surrounding the pivot means, to prevent relative movement of the frame members 21, 12 and 14, 19, unless the sleeve 23 is manually slid away from the pivot means. The sleeve 23 is normally retained at the pivot means by gravity.
The pivot means of the handle preferably comprises a double pivot 24, 25, giving an articulated joint, so that the handle 21 and the support frame member 12 can be folded into a flat face-to-face condition when not in use.
It will therefore be appreciated that, when not in use, the trolley can be stored in a relatively small space, the wheels being removed in generally known manner, the handle 21 being folded face to face with the support frame 12, the seat means 13 being folded rearward to allow support frame 12 to be folded into general alignment with the base frame 11 and the seat means 13 finally being folded face to face with the base frame 11. The arrangement is such that support frame 12 nests between the limbs of the lower end 19 of the seat means.
In the example shown in Figure 1 the trolley has a downwardly tilted handle grip 26 but a T-shaped handle, as indicated in dotted outline at 27 could alternatively be provided.
The trolley provides a transport means for a golf bag, together with a seat which is always available for use and a storage means for small articles which the player may need.
Although the example illustrated is intended for use as a golf trolley, with suitable modifications the trolley might be used for transporting other equipment such as fishing tackle or shooting equipment at the same time providing the sportsman with an opportunity to sit down.
