225,893. Rogers, F. H., (Greene, O. V.). June 12, 1923. Filtering.-Apparatus for filtering blast furnace gases &c. comprises a casing containing filtering screens 21, Figs. 1 and 4 loosely supported upon rods 11 carried by the casing cover between stationary frames 22 and movable frames 12, the movable frames being secured to angles 13 also supported by the rods and adapted to be moved by links 18, 20 pivoted to a slidable rod 19 so as to press the screens .against the stationary frames to maintain them gas-tight in the casing. The gases enter the casing through the inlet 2 and after passing through the screens leaves through the outlets 3. Dust is shaken from the screens by reciprocating the rod 19. The screens are formed of woven wire of large mesh, thewires being first coated with an adhesive, such as sodium-silicate, and then with finely ground' asbestos fibre or mineral wool. In a modification, the frames 22 are provided with transverse angles 42, Fig. 6, carrying angle-irons 43 forming a space which can be filled with grout.
