Abstract
A package comprises a bag 2 of plastic material inside which is placed an article to be packaged; a clip closing the end of the bag; and a prism-shaped piece 3 of plastic attached to the exterior of the closed bag, said piece of plastic having surface dimensions similar to those of the end of the article itself, and having an opening 4 from which emerges a handle 5 by means of which the filled bag can be carried. Where the article is a cooked ham, the piece of plastic forms a protection for a hand grasping the handle when cutting the ham on a slicing machine. In an alternative construction, the piece of plastic is a flat member formed with an inverted U-shaped handle over its central opening. <IMAGE>
Description
2 2 5 5 3.7) ti COKIAINER FOR COOKED HAM OR SIMILAR The present invention
refers to a container for cooked ham or similar.
Because of its constructional characteristics, the invented container improves the handling of this type of ham when cut in a machine into thick or thin slices.
Normally the cooked ham container is such that there comes a point when the amount of ham makes it frankly difficult or even dangerous to cut it into slices in the machine since the ham cannot be grasped firmly and also the plastic round it slips from the ham and an accident may occur.
All this means that it is impossible to use all the cooked ham at the present time with the known systems of containers.
With the invented container a more complete use is achieved when cutting slices from the piece of cooked ham, mi also this operation is carried out in a manner that is safe for the operator who must carry out the operation with a machine.
According to the invention, the cooked ham. whose width increases progressively towards one end, is placed inside a bag or cover of plastic material, usually transparent. and the open end is closed with a clip or similar means.
Attached to the end is a piece of semi-rigid or rigid plastic in the shape of a prism and of little height, with a central opening from which emerges a handle that obviously serves to grasp the piece and, consequently, aid in handling and in giving the necessary pressure to cut slices in a machine, until the ham is almost totally used up.
1herefore, aside from the mentioned function, the plastic piece serves to protect the hand of the person or operator in the cold meats shop who is cutting the slices of cooked ham in the machine.
It is obvious that the piece of plastic may vary in certain details within the basic concept of the invention.
Thus, this semi-rigid or rigid piece of plastic has a flat. polygonal end surface with a central cut-out of approximately the same shape.
On the surface, on one face, it has edges on the external contour and on the cut--,-.,#-its which make the surface more rigid.
Forming part of the same is a portion with a generally inverted "U" shape that forms the handle and which has some triangular areas on its greater lateral faces or sides, forming corbels that give rigidity to the piece.
The horizontal part of the handle has, for preference, a central convex curved depression obtained by deforming the corresponding surface of the handle.
7he opposite end face of the surface of the piece of plastic has a type of roughness or granulation of irregular form that aids in attaching and/or holding the piece to the end surface of the closure of the plastic bag.
In order to more easily understand not only the formation but also the actual use of the object of the invention, reference is made below to a practical example carried out, with the said example being merely enunciative and in no case limiting the same, all as shown in the attached drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a piece of cooked ham inside a bag with the plastic end piece of the invention.
Figure 2 shows a perspective view of the end plastic piece.
Figure 3 shows a variation of the invention with a perspective view of a piece of cooked ham inside a bag with the plastic end piece of the invention.
Figure 4 shows a front view of the end piece that forms the handle in Ficrure 3.
The piece of cooked ham 1 is placed in a bag 2 that is closed at the end by a clip, not shown.
Affixed to the narrowest end is a prism shaped piece 3 of plastic with a central hollow 4 from which emerges a handle 5 by means of which the whole can be grasped ai-)d which serves as a protection when cutting slices of ham on a machine and also allow the ham to be used to the greatest extent.
Referring to Figures 3 and 4, these show: the piece of cooked ham 1 that is placed in a bag 2, closed at the end by a clip, not shown.
On the narrowest end is attached a piece of plastic 3 with a flat surface 6 in general shape 7.
The free surface 8 has two perimeter edges 9 and 10 that give rigidity to the said surface.
From the surf ace, and forming part of the same, emerges a portion 11 with an overall inverted "U" shape that forms the handle and has triancrular areas 12 as prolongations of its larger lateral planes or faces that give rigidity to the handle.
The horizontal bar 13 of the handle has a central curvedconcave hollow 14.
- 4 C L A 1 M S 1. A package comprising a bag of plastic material inside which is placed an article to be packaged; a clip closing the end of the bag; and a prism shaped piece of plastic attached to the exterior of the closed bag, said piece of plastic having surface dimensions similar to those of the end of the article itself, and having an opening from which emerges a handle by means of which the filled bag can be carried.
2. A package according to claim 1, wherein the piece of plastic has a flat surface with a central opening, and wherein emerging from the surface and forming part of the same is a handle with the general shape of an inverted ITI1 with some lateral edges that are also formed by an elongation of the larger surfaces of the handle; and wherein the horizontal bar of the handle has a curved-concave hollowing and/or deformation.
3. A package according to claim 2 wherein the lateral edges of the handle are triangular.
4. A package according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein said article is a cooked ham and said piece of plastic forms a protection when cutting the ham on a slicing machine.
5. A package substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to., and as illustrated in, the accompanying drawings.
